We had the good fortune of connecting with Julieta Calcagno and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julieta, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

I was really struggling with mental health, so I started to knit to help with my anxiety. It was a beautiful hobby, it allowed me to found calm an color when everything around me seemed to be so dark and stressful.

Soon after everything started to suddenly grow, friends were asking for a sweater, strangers started to follow my account interested in buying and that’s when I realized I was doing something different that needed to be explored more seriously.

What should our readers know about your business?
Tejulis is all about color and uniqueness. Each piece is 100% hand-knitted and special, we don’t repeat any design and I think that is the differential from other businesses.
the fashion industry is so repetitive, if something works and sells doesn’t matter what it is… right?
But that is not my mentality, we create unique funky pieces because we love authenticity!
I always say that what it worked for me and our growth as a brand is being true to our ideals, I never create anything that I wouldn’t wear or something that doesn’t respect our mentality. By being faithful to my business I set the example for others to be it as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. But now I live in Milan. So… In Buenos Aires I would take them to La Boca, to check out the beautiful color houses and the stadium of my beautiful futbol team: Boca Juniors. Then I would take them to eat some empanadas at the San Telmo Market and maybe do some vintage shopping!
In Milan I would take them to the Triennale (I really love art), after we could do a beautiful pic-nic in Parco Sempione looking at the Arco della Pace. For specialty coffee a friend showed me Orsonero and it became one of my favorite places here. Of course we can’t finish the day without eating some pasta, right???

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shout out to my mother, Maria. She is the one who taught me how to knit. I am sure she didn’t realized that she was opening the door to a business but more importantly: she was opening the door to a cure, to a distraction and indirectly helped me overcome a mental health disorder.
