We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Morgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am Nigerian American. Born in Lagos, emigrated to NYC 25 years ago. My aesthetic, culture, identity has been shaped, for better or worse, by all the people and places I have been around the world. As a filmmaker, it has been my life’s work to bring whatever that’s imaginable to life. In order to make the film see what the eyes can see and ears can hear.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the things I love the most about filmmaking is its collaborative nature. Its attention to detail, painstaking, directed focus on a simple story, bringing it to life, for our informative entertainment. Emigrating from Lagos to NYC, my aesthetic, is quite literally, straddled between Nollywood and Hollywood. But I consider myself fortunate, I dropped out of grad school from Baruch College to work freelance, as a production assistant, for HBO. I had started from the very top! It was a dream job at the creative services department. We created all the promos to the content/shows for the network. This started back in 2005. So we became the designated behind the scenes (bts) crew. We visited almost all the sets, Soprano’s, Game of Thrones, The Wire, True Blood, HBO Sports, Boxing, Mildred Pierce, Curb Your Enthusiasm etc …
In the mean time, when I was not working there, I worked in commercials production, where I attained SAG/AFTRA eligibility working with late great, Robert Altman. We did numerous commercials from Spike Lee, Bob Giraldi, Francis Lawrence …
I also am affiliated with IATSE (International Alliance of Theatre and Stage Employees), mainly with properties and production design.
Art is life. We cannot live life without art.
It is my mantra that whatever that’s imaginable, can be real…we created FJ Morgan, my wife and I, during earlier stage of the pandemic. She was 4 months pregnant. I was at my wits end and didn’t know what to do. We named it after our son, Francis and then unborn daughter, Joan. It was one of the best experiences of our lives. Then Njedeh and I did Exceptional Beings, which was great!
It has not been easy. But God has kept me on the lit path. I firmly believe in working hard, perseverance, and mastering the ability to taking calculated risks. Knowing that authenticity is of utmost virtue. Information, not data, is king! At FJ Morgan, we maintain our focus on Performance, Integrity, Pride.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Harlem.
NYC cruise around the island, Lady Liberty, Ellis Island, bridges and skyline.
A walk around Central Park, Soho, Chinatown, Little Italy (especially for food) and Tribeca (my favorite neighborhood).
We would visit Coney Island boardwalk, The Cloisters and Washington Heights. We would take them to Queens, Shea Stadium, Mr.Mets will give a great welcome. Broadway…
As we all know, NYC is the capital of the whole world. In so far as, everything and everyone is represented in the City!
We ❤️ NYC
We also live in South Georgia, which is tranquil and beautiful.
It makes for a more rounded dichotomy of human experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my wife, Tracey Oluwaseyi! She is the Co-founder and life partner of the corporation. She loves horror films …
Please give a shoutout to my business partner and childhood friend Njedeh Anthony. He and I went to high school together. We were 13 years old running around with his dad’s camcorder. We got back in touch 30 years later and the rest is filmlore …
