We had the good fortune of connecting with Kadee Rosales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kadee, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is, “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” This quote is the essence behind what I do. I love this quote because it reminds me that people are not projects. We don’t love people because of “what they could become” and to get something out of them. We love people because they’re worthy of being loved & they’re worthy of being helped. Once someone knows I truly value and care for them, and I express that love & care through generosity (whether that’s through money, time, resources, etc.), they’ll be more likely to care for what I have to say– because they know that I care.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I get to be the program’s co-director at the Oasis of Hollywood- a non-profit dedicated to the spiritual, mental, and economic well-being of families children, teens, and families in Hollywood. We exist to encourage hope, inspire faith, and develop potential. When people think of Hollywood, they think of the lights, glamour, fashion, and celebrities. Those things exist- but they’re not what I think of when I think “Hollywood.” When I think “Hollywood”, I think about the children, teenagers, and parents who need to know that we love them, but that more importantly God loves them.

Our organization gets to teach kids & teenagers about the love of God, but also provide them with fun opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t get to do. We provide summer camps, winter camps, take them to Dodgers games, LA Galaxy games, TV show tapings, and more. We also provide free backpacks, free Thanksgiving meals, free Christmas gifts, and more throughout the year.

At our weekly programs, we serve free hot meals, provide free transportation, and send students how with free groceries.

I love what we get to do! It’s not easy, but worth it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
On a week-long trip to LA, I’d take my best friend to all of my favorite food spots: Castle Korean BBQ, La Reyna Taco Truck (right in front of the Smart & Final on Western), Two Hands Corn Dogs, Republique, and Met Her At A Bar. I love Chinatown, so we’d definitely have to go there to hang out. Plus, I’d love to do some thrift shopping in the Fairfax District!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to all of my family that has been there for me, loved me, and prayed for me– my grandparents, aunts & uncles, cousins, and my sister, Shelbee. Specifically, though, I want to dedicate this shoutout to my mom, Brandy. She taught me how to live a selfless life; she has time & time again sacrificed for me and my two sisters. As a single mom, she said “no” to things she wanted so that she could say “yes” to things we wanted. She never missed a basketball game, theatre performance, award ceremony, or dance. Her consistency inspires me and challenges me to do for others what she has done for me. Thank you mom- I love you!
