We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah McGough and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what matters most to you?
The principle of kindness is definitely one that matters the most to me. Kindness is amazing because it’s so powerful. I can’t tell you the number of situations that I’ve been in where being kind changed the course of someone’s day or life. My love for the principle of kindness is something that is at the center of the organization that I founded called the Positive Change Project. This project focuses on random acts of kindness that can make someone’s day. It also works with other organizations to send handmade positive bookmarks to people in need of a smile. I started this project a little over a year ago and I am constantly seeing the impact that being kind to others has on a daily basis. Kindness is truly magical.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets the Positive Change Project apart from others is our mission and heart. The organization is focused on spreading smiles to others through random acts of kindness and other positive projects. Our mission is solely based on kindness and love. This kindness and love is at the root of everything we do. All of the kindness ideas are things that the members of the Positive Change Project do on a daily basis, and our bookmarks are each unique and handmaid to represent how everyone is wonderful and unique.

A lot has happened in the past year to get Positive Change Project where it is now. For me, balancing Positive Change Project with the school was definitely a challenge. I’m finishing up nursing school this year and starting graduate school for teaching in the summer, so figuring out ways to do both successfully has been a learning experience. With this being said, I love both the Positive Change Project and school so figuring out a way to do both while challenging has definitely been a good experience. One lesson that I’ve learned throughout the process of balancing the organization and school has been the value of others. Many of the members of the Positive Change Project were amazing and helpful with having everything run smoothly!

I want the world to know about what the Positive Change Project does and why it’s important. The Positive Change Project is a super-easy way to make someone’s day. On our website, we have random acts of kindness for people to utilize in their own lives, and form to have a bookmark made to be sent to someone in need of a smile for free. This is important because the world needs more kindness and this is an easy way to make someone’s day!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I go to school in Fairfield CT, so I’ve had a lot of experience creating an itinerary for people when they come to visit! I first in the morning would take them to Wich Day Sandwiches to get a bagel sandwich and coffee. While we are there we would get Italian Subs to take for a picnic later in the day. Following that, we would drive to Sasco Beach and enjoy the beach and warm weather for a couple of hours. In the afternoon we would find a picnic table on the beach and enjoy the Italian subs that we got earlier in the day. Maybe we would play some volleyball or sit on one of the many swings. After the beach, we would spend the night walking through downtown Fairfield window-shopping through a lot of their unique shops! Dinner would be at Flipside Burgers where I would recommend the Waldorf burger and monster drink, which comes in a monster-sized cup. Lastly, if we were still hungry we would walk to Saugatuck Sweets and finish the day up with a scoop of Moose Tracks ice cream on the beach. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out one of the Positive Change Project original members, Hannah O’Neil. Hannah truly embodies the message of the Positive Change Project and has done so much for the organization. We would not be where we are today without the help of Hannah!
