We had the good fortune of connecting with Kareliah Tocts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kareliah, how does your business help the community?
I believe my photography helps the community by bringing more smiles. If I can make someone giggle or feel good about themselves, I feel like I’ve accomplished something. Every client who books with me tells me how good they feel when they leave and how much more confident and positive they feel toward others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is rooted in connection, emotion, and making people feel seen. What sets me apart is the experience I create, not just the photos themselves. I focus on helping my clients feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely happy in front of the camera. Many people come to me saying they’re nervous or don’t feel photogenic, and watching that shift into laughter, ease, and self-confidence is what I’m most proud of.

Photography has been a passion of mine since I was 14 years old, but getting to where I am today was not easy. I’ve balanced full-time work, family life, and building a small business from the ground up. There were moments of self-doubt, fear of putting myself out there, and learning everything through trial and error. I overcame those challenges by staying consistent, believing in my vision, and reminding myself why I started in the first place. Every obstacle became a lesson instead of a setback.

Along the way, I’ve learned that growth doesn’t happen overnight, confidence is built through action, and kindness truly leaves a lasting impact. I’ve also learned that success isn’t just measured by numbers, but by how people feel when they leave your presence.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that this work comes from the heart. My goal is to create a safe, uplifting space where people can be themselves and walk away feeling better than when they arrived. My story is one of passion, perseverance, and purpose, and I’m excited to continue growing while creating meaningful memories for others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d want them to experience a mix of Southern California magic, good food, and slow, meaningful moments. I’d start with mornings spent grabbing coffee from a cozy local café, then heading out for scenic walks and golden-hour views. I’d definitely take them to places with beautiful natural light and open spaces, like redwood groves, mountain trails, and quiet parks where you can just breathe and take it all in.

We’d spend a day exploring charming downtown areas, popping into small shops, grabbing lunch at local spots, and ending the evening with dinner and drinks somewhere relaxed and welcoming. I’d make sure we hit a beach day too. Nothing beats watching the sunset over the ocean with your toes in the sand and talking about life. One night would be dedicated to a fun dinner followed by dessert and late-night laughs, and another would be a low-key evening at home with takeout, movies, and good conversation.

Throughout the week, I’d sprinkle in moments that feel special but simple. Brunch dates, photo walks, people watching, and maybe a little spontaneous adventure. The most exciting part of the area, to me, isn’t just the places, but the people and the feeling. There’s such a beautiful mix of creativity, culture, and warmth here, and I love showing visitors that the best memories often come from slowing down and being present.

By the end of the week, I’d want them to leave feeling inspired, relaxed, and full. Not just from the food, but from the experiences and connection.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my husband and my son. Their constant love, patience, and encouragement have been the foundation behind everything I do. They remind me daily why I keep going and why creating meaningful memories matters so much to me. I’d also like to shout out every client who has trusted me to capture their story. Your support, kind words, and belief in my work have helped me grow not only as a photographer, but as a person. None of this would be possible without the people who continue to lift me up and believe in my dreams.
