We had the good fortune of connecting with Kari Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kari, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My earliest experiences with sports were being smacked in the head with a football and scoring a goal on the opponent’s net. I was born into a sports-loving family. But I found grace in the expression of creativity that art and crafting gave me. Art was something that I was enamored with at a very young age. My basement had a full craft room that my mom stocked with everything you could imagine to create with. My nana went by crafty Nana Lane and did craft shows most of her life. I took on dressing my dolls in endless outfits draping fabric and styling their homes as my main medium of choice. I started taking sewing classes when I was 9 and had dreams of attending the project runway school Parsons School of Design in NYC shortly after the start of 6th grade. Now I get to dress my clients and send them off with decor to decorate their own space!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My shop Karnet Creative is all pre-loved items that are worthy of a new life of wearing and use. I specialize in Vintage and Designer pieces that are wearable or for your home.

I list items on my website daily and sell on Poshmark, eBay, and depop. I stay active on social media- Instagram and TikTok are my favorites to post new arrivals, sneak peeks, and of course behind the scenes!
I am a born and bred treasure hunter so the best part of my job is making connections in my community to find pieces that were destined for a landfill but rescued by me so they can be worn and loved by you!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was born and raised in the West Chester Borough so I have quite a few favorites (if you’re a local or visiting wanting recs don’t hesitate to reach out in my dms @karnetcreative)

Here are my top picks

Food:
Coffee & Treats- La Baguette Magique
Lunch/Brunch- Split Rail Tavern (pickle brine fried chicken sandwich is my fave)
Drinks – Slow hand
Dinner – Sedona Taphouse
Treats- Dia dolce cupcakes are top tier and grab a coffee from Cathy’s Coffee Bar (you won’t be disappointed)
There are so many great gift shops and boutiques scattered along Gay & Market street to check out!

Most of my visitors love to go treasure hunting so we’ll take a drive up to Adamstown. Known as the Antiques capital USA (1hr drive) and spend hours looking through the endless and I mean endless booths at antique malls.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has been an endless source of support for me. Especially my mom, dad, and sister. From gifting me their clothes or decor & lots of secondhand shipping supplies to helping me man pop-ups or bag up inventory. I would not be where I am personally or professionally without them and I am so grateful. I also have amazing friends that are also makers and small business owners. One of which (Michelle Perez was just featured by shoutout). There are so many people that support and make this dream possible for me. Having people in your corner is priceless so if you like or share social media posts, tell a friend, or most importantly shop small with me. Thank you!
