We had the good fortune of connecting with Karima El-Hakkaoui and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karima, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had spent years working in the beauty industry and grew more and more frustrated with their approach to skincare. I wanted to create a beauty revolution that is focused on developing natural, sustainable products that actually work.

What should our readers know about your business?
Six Gldn was founded because me and my co-founders were feed up with the current state of the beauty industry which uses low quality, non-sustainable, inferior products. Six Gldn uses natural botanicals in our formulas which are based on 400 years of advanced scientific research in Korean Herbal remedies. All of our products are ethical, recyclable and sustainable using the highest quality ingredients. We are cruelty free, vegan, PETA and Leaping Bunny certified.

Our mission is to drive the beauty industry forward with industry-leading sustainability initiatives and clean standards that far exceed all US retailer and EU standards. With 2,500 ingredients banned, we’re showing that clean skincare can deliver results without sacrificing quality.

We chose the name Six Gldn because we love the light when the sun is six degrees above the horizon, radiating a golden light that makes us all glow.

It is definitely not linear when building a business but I’m doing something I deeply believe in which makes it worth it everyday. The biggest lesson I have learned is to lean in to my intuitions and not be be afraid of what lies ahead. I tattooed the word “jump” on my wrist to remind to take a leap of faith when I have the opportunity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My ideal day would be spent at the beach. I love to take visitors along the coast from Santa Monica to Malibu to see and enjoy our beautiful beaches followed up with a picnic or drinks to watch the sunset — the golden hour. I’m also a big hiker in the canyons as I love to be outside enjoying nature.
