Meet Karina Gaynutdinova | A female pilot who motivates women to fly.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Karina Gaynutdinova and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karina, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Persistence and a never-give-up attitude.
No matter what is going on in my life, I always try to stay focused on my goals. Sometimes it’s okay, sometimes it’s very hard. During challenging times, I like to relax, get a massage, or treat myself to a nice restaurant to disconnect my brain for a little bit. And it always works.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My professional journey has been a mix of challenges and triumphs. I began during the COVID-19 pandemic while working as a flight attendant, only to find myself grounded due to the lack of flights. This presented an opportunity for me to relocate to Ohio and focus on my dream of becoming a pilot. Initially, the transition was tough – struggling to grasp the technicalities of aviation, but through persistence and dedication, I gradually began to understand and soar.
Upon obtaining my licenses, the next hurdle was securing a job. Attending a Women in Aviation event proved to be a turning point as I was offered a position on the spot. However, working for a small airline and enduring long flights with a challenging colleague almost dampened my passion for flying. Faced with this adversity, I made the bold decision to leave that job and venture into entrepreneurship. I founded my own sightseeing company in Los Angeles, where I now take joy in flying for leisure and delighting passengers by showcasing the beauty of LA.
Through this rollercoaster of experiences, I’ve learned valuable lessons in perseverance, adaptability, and the importance of following my passion. My story is a testament to the power of determination and resilience in the face of obstacles. I want the world to know that I am a testament to the fact that with unwavering dedication and a spirit of innovation, one can overcome challenges and carve out their own unique path to success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I would plan a thrilling week-long itinerary that showcases the best of Los Angeles. The highlight of the trip would undoubtedly be a scenic flight with me, offering a breathtaking aerial view of LA’s iconic landmarks. We would soar above the Hollywood sign, Griffith Observatory, Downtown LA, and Dodger Stadium, taking in the city’s beauty from a unique perspective.
Next, I would whisk them away to Catalina Island, landing at the picturesque Airport in the Sky, a gem for general aviation enthusiasts. We would indulge in a delicious lunch at Beson Burger, a charming coffee shop offering delectable meals. Spending a leisurely day exploring the island, we would revel in the tranquil beachfront setting and unwind at a beautiful hotel by the shore, savoring captivating sunsets.
After a relaxing stay, we would fly back to LA, concluding our unforgettable journey with lasting memories of adventure and camaraderie. LA’s diverse offerings, from thrilling aerial escapades to serene island getaways, would provide the perfect blend of excitement and relaxation for an unforgettable experience with my best friend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am involved in various women’s organizations within the aviation industry, such as Women in Corporate Aviation, Women Aviation International, The 99s, and many others. I find great joy in being surrounded by women who work in aviation, as we share a common bond and mutual understanding. They truly get me, especially during challenging times in a predominantly male-dominated field like piloting.
These women have been a source of incredible support, simply by sharing their stories and experiences with me. Their encouragement has fueled my determination to persevere and never give up.
