We had the good fortune of connecting with Karina Magallon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karina, what makes you happy? Why?
In terms of my music, I love performing and creating music. Being able to create a connection with others is so powerful and beautiful. Seeing the positive impact that my music can have on others is very fulfilling.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me a part is my spanglish music, my vocal timbre, whistle tones, and my rizos(curls). ☺️I love writing in both languages. As a first generation latina (Panamá🇵🇦) , I grew up being fluent in both and embracing the cultures. In a way, my music also reflects who I am and shows how I embrace growing up in 2 cultures.

I am most proud of how far I’ve come and the music I’ve created. I know that if I keep going the path I’m walking, more amazing things are coming my way.
Recently, I moved to LA. In the past 6 months, I’ve been performing and songwriting for various projects here. I’m excited for what else the future has for me!

I started my music journey when I was 5-6 years old. To get to where I am professionally, I focused on learning my voice, developing my piano and guitar skills, as well as production and songwriting from a young age. Going to Belmont University and living in Nashville also helped develop my skills more too. Being surrounded by so many talented people was great for me. I was able to write with a lot of people while I lived there!
When the pandemic hit, I focused on learning production more, in particular, vocals, songwriting everyday, and meeting up with people from all over the world on zoom to write music.
I met so many people and established connections through all the music zoom groups I was in, so when I moved to LA, I actually already had some friends and collaborators. This is how I met my long time producers Thomas Ng & 4nalog.

Also I had to learn how to direct and edit music videos myself during this time. I’ve actually directed all of my music videos and edited a few of them.
It’s definitely not been easy but it’s been an exciting journey!

I want the world to be inspired by my music and to chase after their own dreams. I want people to feel good when they listen to my music and feel like it’s a safe place.
I think a lot of people who are first generation like me didn’t always see or hear themselves much in media or in music growing up, so in a way, with the rise of more spanglish music, it feels like we are being heard and accepted more in both communities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
