Meet Karlie Everhart | Life & Career Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Karlie Everhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karlie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always wanted to start my own business. I majored in Entrepreneurship in college, but I didn’t quite know what type of business I wanted to start. In 2014, I enrolled in a Masters program in Spiritual Psychology for my own personal growth and upliftment. At the time, I didn’t even know that Life Coaching was a profession but I had been unofficially coaching friends and colleagues most of my adolescent and adult life. During my second year of my Masters program it became clear that coaching was something I wanted to pursue. I started telling some close friends and I got my first client the day I graduated. I officially opened my private practice in 2016 and have been coaching ever since.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a Life and Career Coach. I have my Masters degree in Spiritual Psychology, which was a 3 year highly experiential program, I am a Mom and worked in corporate for 8 years. As a coach, I bring all of this to my clients. I have lived experience navigating challenging career and life transitions coupled with a deep mastery in using spiritual and practical tools to support clients in achieving their goals. I’m really proud of clients who have the willingness and the courage to profoundly change their lives, to take the tiny uncomfortable steps that create massive long-term shifts and ultimately has them moving into the direction of their dreams. I’m also really proud of clients who have the courage to retire any judgments that have them stuck where they are at. It’s an honor to be guiding people in the work that I do.
I’ve gotten where I am today by taking the same steps that I encourage other people to take. I surround myself with people who inspire me, who believe in me on days that I don’t believe in myself, and who are constantly rooting for me and stretching me. I do things that scare me a little bit, I start before I’m totally ready. When things get challenging, I slow myself way down. I think a lot of people when the going gets tough start to speed everything up, but I try to do the opposite. I really do my best to stay connected to possibility and what is in my control. If I’m having a particularly challenging day, I’ve adopted a beautiful practice from Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray Love and I simply ask, “Love, what would you have me know today?” This practice brings a sense of gentleness and loving. It helps to shift the inner dialogue to one that is sweet and empathetic. The way we are with ourselves when we go through challenging times is so important. If you’re spending time beating yourself up, chances are you are going to be stuck in that valley for a much longer time. If you are gentle and kind to yourself it is much easier to move through the challenges of life and business. The way we speak to ourselves is everything! Words are so important.
People who work with me create a clear vision of what they want and are given spiritual and practical tools to achieve their goals in a way that feels supportive, yet stretches them at the same time. I support my clients by giving them an inner and outer roadmap to achieve what they want because I believe our being informs our doing. We must shift our beliefs about ourselves if we want to experience different results. People leave our time together experiencing clarity. confidence and connection to who they truly are, which ultimately allows the impossible to become possible.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am the worst person to ask this question. When my best friends come to visit we stay home — we get some delicious take out, a nice bottle of wine or make homemade cocktail and get deep into conversation. BUT if we were forced on the town, I’d frantically call one of my young, hip clients to tell me where to go. Right now, they might say Horses — if you want a real LA/Hollywood scene. Pace is a fan favorite if you want delicious food and wine but also some privacy to chat for hours. The Arts District in downtown LA also has a lot of great dining options. During the day, Carla’s Cafe is awesome for sandwiches. Also, if you’ve been to the coveted All’Antico Vinaio in Florence, Italy; they recently opened one on Abbott Kinney that you don’t want to miss it. I also love a matcha from Alfred’s, a good LA classic.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that deserve credit and recognition in my story. When I look at the entirety of my life and career, I have had a consistent string of women who have cheered for me and advocated for me — women who have propped me up into positions that maybe I wasn’t ready for or put me in rooms I “shouldn’t” have been in. I was given the opportunity because they advocated for me. I had an Entrepreneurship professor in college, a few female bosses and an extraordinary coach that I worked with for many years that all believed in me when I didn’t quite believe in myself. They advocated for me for jobs, promotions, helped me navigate raises, guided me when I started and grew my business. As a female-owned business, it’s so important to surround yourself with other powerful women that can reflect back to your how great you are — especially on those off days. It’s one of the reasons clients work with me, I help them see how amazing they are.
