We had the good fortune of connecting with Karolina Soltani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karolina, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I come from the old world, a small town called Czestochowa in the south of Poland. My dad, a retired PE teacher and a soccer coach, has taught me everything sports related from swimming to skiing to playing soccer, volleyball or even chess! My mom has always put emphasis on education to ensure that me and my sister get our college degrees and can speak at least one foreign language. Had it not been for my parents, I would never have gotten where I am right now, that is, running a fitness business in a sunny California holding a Master’s Degree in Economics.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run Long Beach Boot Camp, a comprehensive fitness program in the best gym in the world… OUTDOORS! But it is not just the “outdoors’ part that makes us different. WE believe that fitness should be fun and with that in mind we make each session a unique, one of a kind experience where you feel welcomed, supported and where you feel you’re having fun while exercising! Hence our motto “We Make Fitness Fun”. This new approach to fitness and physical activity has won us several awards (The Best BootCamp in Long Beach by LB Home & Living) and put us on a reality show called This is LA. But it took us a while to get where we are right not and there have been definitely ups and downs. One of the biggest challenges was to get people out of their houses and their indoor gyms. That was well before COVID happened, in 2006, when the business was established and when people only imagined doing their workouts indoors. Treadmills , elliptical and rowing machines where “IT”. And when the word ‘bootcamp’ was associated with a drill sergeant yelling hostile commands to participants. Needless to say we are none of that. And it only takes us one session to show you that we are a very friendly bunch and when we say FUN we really mean it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Rent a paddleboard or kayak or try a gondola “getaway” in Long Beach, go for a bike ride along the beach and check out the kitesurfers, grab a beer at Ballast Point or the best calamari everrrr at Tantalum. Hop on a ferry to Catalina for a day trip, drive around Palos Verdes, go for a run in Signal Hill, check out the wetland of Bolsa Chica, do a bonfire at Bolsa Chica state beach, play a game of volleyball on the beach, grab a pizza from Fat Tomato in Long Beach and coffee from the most unique coffee bar ever @Cafablanca, take kids for a swim at Colorado Lagoon or feed the birds at the Aquarium in Long Beach and last but not least come work out with Long Beach Boot Camp!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is to my parents who have always supported my pursuit for better opportunities even if it meant moving away and living on the other side of the world….literally.
