Meet Karpit Patel | Director, Writer, Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Karpit Patel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karpit, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is an inevitable part of life and any career journey. I believe every decision we make involves some level of risk, whether small or significant. For me, the turning point was at the age of 28 when I chose to leave the security of a corporate job and pursue filmmaking—a passion that had been calling me for years. While most of my peers were settling into stable lives, I started from scratch in a completely different industry, all while honing my craft part-time as a photographer.
This leap of faith was inspired not only by my dream of narrative storytelling but also by the powerful stories and characters that shaped my perspective. I mostly inspired from the movie or Television shows characters which helped me alot to taking this risk has been transformative, aligning my life with my passion and opening doors to opportunities I once only dreamed of.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m currently most excited about a couple of feature films I’m writing. They’re still in the development stage, but the process of crafting these stories is thrilling. I’ve always dreamt of a life behind the camera, where creativity and vision bring the unreal to life, making movies an immersive and transformative experience. Exploring this creative process continues to fuel my curiosity, which drives me to delve deeper into storytelling and filmmaking.
My journey into filmmaking has been a blend of passion, curiosity, and perseverance. While it wasn’t overly challenging or easy, it required me to stay focused and consistent. I’ve learned to embrace the process and work diligently without fixating too much on immediate results. My passion for storytelling and filmmaking kept me grounded and motivated throughout.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of patience and persistence. In the creative field, progress often comes at its own pace, and staying committed is key. I’ve also realized that curiosity is a powerful tool remaining curious helps me explore new ideas and improve continuously.
I want the world to know that I’m a filmmaker dedicated to creating stories that inspire, entertain, and challenge perspectives. My work reflects my passion for bringing unique and imaginative ideas to life on screen. Filmmaking isn’t just a profession for me, it’s a journey of turning creative thoughts into something tangible and impactful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I would plan an unforgettable week-long trip to Iceland during the Northern Lights season, which peaks from November to early March. This period offers the perfect combination of clear skies for viewing the Aurora Borealis and access to Iceland’s stunning landscapes.
On the first day, we would begin by exploring Reykjavik, the vibrant capital of Iceland. We would start with a hearty breakfast at Sandholt Bakery and then visit the iconic Hallgrímskirkja Church. Afterward, we would stroll through the city’s charming streets, taking in its colorful street art and local boutiques. In the evening, we would head to Grótta Lighthouse for a peaceful walk, hoping to catch a glimpse of the mesmerizing Northern Lights.
On the second day, we would set off on the Golden Circle Tour, which highlights some of Iceland’s most famous natural wonders. We would visit Þingvellir National Park, where we can walk between tectonic plates, and marvel at the powerful Gullfoss Waterfall. We would also stop at the Geysir Geothermal Area to watch the Strokkur geyser erupt. The day would conclude with a unique dinner at Fridheimar, a restaurant located inside a tomato greenhouse.
Day three would be a day of relaxation at the famous Blue Lagoon. We would soak in its warm, mineral-rich waters, surrounded by a surreal volcanic landscape. After a few hours of unwinding, we would enjoy a delicious meal at the LAVA Restaurant, located right by the lagoon.
On day four, we would immerse ourselves in Icelandic culture. We would start by visiting the Perlan Museum, where interactive exhibits and a panoramic observation deck offer a fascinating view of the city. We would then head to the National Museum of Iceland to learn more about the country’s rich history. To wrap up the day, we would visit Kaldi Bar, a cozy spot offering a variety of tasty snacks and dishes.
The fifth day would focus on the South Coast, where we would visit some of Iceland’s most iconic natural sights. We would start with the stunning Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, where the sight of cascading water against the backdrop of lush green landscapes is awe-inspiring. Next, we would visit Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, with its dramatic basalt columns and breathtaking ocean views. For dinner, we would enjoy fresh seafood and hearty dishes at a local restaurant before heading back to Reykjavik.
On the sixth day, we would explore the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, often referred to as Iceland in Miniature because it encapsulates all of the country’s diverse landscapes. In the evening, we would join a guided tour to chase the Northern Lights, ensuring we find the perfect spot to witness this awe-inspiring natural phenomenon.
Finally, on the seventh day, we would enjoy a relaxing breakfast at Kaffivagninn, Iceland’s oldest café. Afterward, we would spend the rest of the morning strolling along Reykjavik’s harbor for some last-minute shopping and reflection. It would be a peaceful way to end what has surely been an unforgettable trip.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In every step toward success, there’s always someone or something that plays a vital role in supporting and motivating you. In my story, my parents, Rakesh Patel and Chandrika Patel—especially my mom, who has been my unwavering pillar of support—have played that role. She has always encouraged my decisions without questioning them, even when she may not have entirely agreed or understood. Her faith in me has been invaluable.
Beyond personal support, I’ve found immense motivation from iconic movies and series like Breaking Bad, The Godfather, A Most Violent Year, and many others. These stories resonate deeply with me—there are moments when I compare myself to the characters and reflect on what’s holding me back from achieving greatness like them. This blend of personal support and cinematic inspiration has been a driving force in my journey.
