We had the good fortune of connecting with Karreno Alexanyan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karreno, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I started my charcuterie and cheese board company, Charqute, at a time when businesses were closing down right and left. The pandemic did not make it easy for any business owner. As a private chef, my income was dependent on private events and catering. As group gatherings were diminishing, so was my business. This forced me to become the most creative and innovative I’ve ever been. I came up with a product I can safely prepare and deliver that would meet CDC standards as well as local laws and regulations. That’s when Charqute was born! Starting a company from scratch is no easy task, as it involves so many different factors. I really did not know whether or not my products would sell, but it was a risk I was willing to take. Failure was never an option.

As a new business owner, I had to take on many different roles. These include; the accountant, the website designer, the customer service representative, the social media manager, the chef, the delivery driver, and so on. I really didn’t know whether or not this business would succeed and if all my efforts would pay off. I didn’t know whether or not the stacks of specialty cheeses and cold cuts in my fridge would be used. As time went on, orders started rolling in! Thanks to my amazing social media manager, we experienced an exponential growth across all of our social media platforms. I fully devoted my time, savings, and energy to the world of charcuterie, and I’m happy to announce we are continuing to thrive.

What should our readers know about your business?
Charqute doesn’t just sell a product, we sell an experience. Every detail is well thought out and personalized to our clients’ needs. Our website is easy to navigate, our cheese and meat selection are of highest quality, and we invidiually connect with our clients to ensure they are satisfied. I am excited for the products we are currently developing and for what the future holds. I decided to hire a social media manager from the get-go because I felt it was necessary to spread the word about my new company. I understood the impact of a well structured social media presence. To date, we have over 92K followers and over 6 million views of our content. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is how draining and overwhelming it can be to make and deliver charcuterie boards while simultaneously filming content for social media. However, it is all worth it in the end. Personally, one of my biggest accomplishments was working on a brand deal with Netflix to develop a custom “Bridgerton” themed board for the Television Academy. This was a direct result of our social media presence, they noticed us and reached out. Who would ever think that a small business like ours would be given such an opportunity.
