We had the good fortune of connecting with Karyna Yevsieieva and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karyna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Back in 2018, I was offered the opportunity to sell eye glitters. Since I had my own makeup school at the time, I decided to give it a try—and I really enjoyed selling cosmetics! But after a few months, a thought suddenly struck me: why am I selling someone else’s products and making money for another brand when I could create my own and sell my own cosmetics? That realization inspired me to start my own beauty brand!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It all started when I wanted to become a makeup artist in 2014, but my parents were against it because they didn’t see it as a serious profession. It took a lot of time and effort to convince them and get their approval to pay for my first makeup courses. I promised them that I would succeed and become the best!

Four months after completing my courses, I won my first makeup championship in my city in Ukraine, competing against very successful artists. That was a sign for me that I was on the right path! I started growing quickly, but soon, my hometown felt too small for my ambitions, so I moved to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. However, I didn’t know how to promote myself in a big city. Then, I got the chance to go to Paris and study at the most prestigious makeup school to earn an international diploma.

I borrowed money from my mom, completed my training in Paris, and as soon as I returned, I organized a huge makeup masterclass. I started working with celebrities and well-known personalities in Ukraine. I opened my first makeup studio, and my career skyrocketed! I built teams of makeup artists to work at Fashion Weeks in Milan, Paris, Berlin, Krakow, and Budapest. I launched my own cosmetics brand and expanded it.

Unfortunately, in 2022, war came to my country, and I had to leave behind everything I had built and move to Los Angeles to start from scratch. It was incredibly difficult—I didn’t know English, I didn’t know anyone here, and I didn’t even know how to drive.

One day, I met a woman who became my business partner. She invested in my cosmetics brand, and together, we built an e-commerce business, did a full rebranding, and launched sales! Our brand is called KARYSHA COSMETICS—we offer the highest-quality eye glitters you can find, with unique colors and stunning sets! We also have other products.

Now, I am growing my personal brand as a makeup artist and educator with over 10 years of experience, while also expanding my cosmetics brand here in the US.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite place is the brunch restaurant Mood In LA. It has an incredible vibe, delicious food, and excellent service! I also love it because the owner is Ukrainian—and Ukraine is known for its amazing cuisine and high-quality service!
