We had the good fortune of connecting with Kat and Brooke Wyman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kat and Brooke, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Everything we want is on the other side of risk. Deep, meaningful, soul-nourishing, love. A big, grand, beautiful, and fulfilling life. Work that fills your heart, and also brings success. Going after huge life goals. The things in life that have the biggest impact, most likely involve some level of risk. Risk is inherently a part of the game as a business owner, and as any human trying to make an impact. For us, we like to measure risk against trust. If we are going to take a risk in business, life, love, or adventure, is our trust in ourselves, our plan, the universe, or that it will work out big enough to justify the risk we’re about to take?
We sit here today propelled by numerous great risks. Falling in love with each other was a risk. Would our families accept? Would our communities? Would our relationship work out? We trusted our love. Starting a business with no statistical proof of success was a risk. Our loved ones doubted us. We trusted our vision. I left a solid career to go all in with our studio, giving up a great salary, benefits, and stability to go all in on our studio. That was a huge risk. We trusted it would work out. In the middle of a pandemic, my wife stopped working at her side job to pour her whole self into keeping our studio alive, and our community connected. We trusted.
In the end, risk is a part of any game worth playing. And with a good amount of trust, the risks are always worth taking.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What we believe to be true and what we stand for is what both sets us apart, and makes us incredibly proud. We believe in our collective, and that we are all in this together. We believe in showing up as your truest self and letting yourself shine. Because when you shine, we all shine. We believe in hugs and high-fives, and in championing your neighbor. We believe that vulnerability is the gateway to living a bold, beautiful courageous life. We believe that all souls are created equal. We believe that sweat is magic, and that there is power in music. We believe in gratitude. We believe in acceptance. We believe in connection. Our teachers are some of the best around. Their classes are woven with themes that will make you want to leave the studio, and both conquer the world and be a better human. The class sequencing will push you to your edge. And the music will make you feel and also make you want to dance. Yeah, we’re an innovative and unique yoga studio, but yoga is really a vehicle to bring our beliefs to life.
There are probably a million things and a million people that have led to where we are today. And if we’re really talking about the things that have made the biggest impact when overcoming challenges, there are few that stand out. As a business, having a strong ‘why,’ and firmly adhering to it creates focus, and direction for getting through anything. Our why is to ‘empower individuals to live a life of connection and possibility both on and off the mat.’ Every choice we make and person we hire gets matched against our ‘why.’ The second thing that stands out is the principle, what got us to today won’t get us through tomorrow. We are always asking ourselves ‘what’s needed now?’ It has kept us from getting complacent, and greatly served us while pivoting our way through a pandemic. We’re also huge believers in the idea of choice. Even in the toughest circumstances, we always have a choice. We can always do something. Lastly, in our business, if it isn’t a “hell yes” it’s simply a no. It’s helped us remain focused and set clear boundaries.
We want the world to remember SoulFire as a place where humans are both seen as and pushed to be their best selves.

Our collective, aka our community, deserves all the recognition. Everyone from our teachers at the studio, to our studio support, to every single person who’s walked through our doors, to our local business community, to our favorite barista at the local coffee shop, has played a hand in our success. We’re forever indebted to the people around us. They’ve been our mentors, our friends, our cheerleaders, and our guests, and our family. We’ve read a million books, listened to all the podcasts, read all the articles, but without our people and our community our business wouldn’t be possible. They are what get us out of bed in the morning.
If there was one book we had to point to though, Simon Sinek’s “Start with Why,” is a MUST READ for any entrepreneur.
