Meet Kate Bera | Actor & Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Bera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Back in school, the things that came most easily to me were always math and science-related, things that were very analytical and logical. However, being someone that deeply craves challenges and growth, I found myself much more drawn to creative pursuits, specifically those involving live performance and collaboration. During my teen years, I toured New England with a circus company and then went on to graduate from the National School of Circus Arts in Paris. My career in the arts morphed and evolved through circus/aerial work, to dance and stunts, and onto acting and improv work. I am always drawn to opportunities that allow me to connect more deeply with myself and with others. The way in which art allows us to discover and uncover parts of ourselves has always been important to me, and I hope to continue being part of projects that help others connect and feel seen.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Outside of my work in the entertainment industry, I also have a company, Kate Alivia Media, offering photography and videography services in the LA-area. A few years ago, I began getting involved in the real estate industry while pursing further education in multimedia arts and video production. While I originally started as a real estate agent, cold-calling and I are a bit like oil and water, it was not a good fit for my personality or the way in which I best contribute to the world. I found that working behind the camera and utilizing my business degrees provided a much more aligned path forward. Since then, I have expanded my services to include portraits, corporate headshots, and event coverage.
Collaborating with and supporting others will always be what drives me most. Throughout this process as a small business owner, I have learned a lot about setting boundaries and valuing myself and my services, while still working with clients to obtain the best possible results and experience. I am someone who has always strived to go above and beyond with everything that I do, and am very much a ‘make it happen,’ type of person, but I have learned through this journey how to better negotiate and find a balance in everything. Throughout life and this career, there have been many opportunities to learn and pivot, and to me, that’s the most exciting part of it all— being able to bring the lessons learned into every new venture and opportunity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a best friend were visiting LA, I would definitely take them to see some live theatre or comedy performances. With how much technology is involved in our daily lives, there’s something so necessary and fulfilling about coming together in a theatre to enjoy and take in live performance. One of my favorite spots to see a show is the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre. They have shows every night of the week, and I’ve found such a great community there and through their training center. My favorite spot to grab a bite to eat before or after the show is La Villita Cantina, right next door, but there are many great places to discover on that block of Franklin Ave.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to the teachers and students at The Last Acting Studio. Through classes there and being part of Career Circle, I’ve really moved into a new chapter of my career and life. During the years when I was doing mainly movement-based work, there were some things that happened that really separated me from my voice and the ability to connect with different parts of myself. I really appreciate the community that I’ve found through The Last Acting Studio and all the ways in which it has helped me grow, both personally and within my work.
