Meet Kate Myer | chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Myer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want to be remembered for my tenacity, passion & community care. I have been been cooking my whole life and truly love what I get to do for work. I strive to freely share my knowledge and food with my local community whenever I am able. I am deeply passionate about supporting regenerative farming and sourcing ingredients in a way that supports fair wages and ethical business practices. As someone with an incurable, degenerative illness I hope to inspire other people in the culinary world and creatives to live their dreams no matter the obstacles and to stay present to joy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a personal chef with a focus on providing nourishing meals to clients living through a variety of health challenges. Throughout the course of being a personal chef I have had the privilege of cooking for clients in various stages of their life journey. I have cooked for clients through pregnancy, major surgeries, loss of a spouse and even hospice care. When I started this business I could not have imagined the profound impact my clients would have on me.
This has not been an easy journey. Through the constantly changing world we live in, a pandemic, hugely inflated food cost and being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis this year, being a small business owner has never been more difficult. I have had to pivot business wise multiple times and with the help of my brother and other business owners I have been able to keep growing and shifting my offerings in a way that supports me and my clients.
I am very excited to be returning to school this spring to study nutrition with the goal of being able to offer more in depth support and meal planning.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love taking friends around LA! I would definitely make sure to visit Republique, Courage Bagel, Gjusta, Baker’s Bench for amazing vegan pastries, All Day Baby, Yang’s Kitchen, Leo’s Tacos, Versailles, Smorgasburg on Sundays at The Row in DTLA, Pizzana, Saffron & Rose & the Hollywood Farmer’s Market. In the time between meals I would visit The Broad & The Getty, see a show at The Hollywood Bowl and hike in Griffith Park.
The most fun and interesting activities always involve time with LA friends who are some of my favorite people in the world.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my incredible partner, friends and all my former coworkers. I would never have gotten this far without the endless love and support from my community.
