Meet Katelyn Carpio | Creative Director/ Model/ Influencer/Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katelyn Carpio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katelyn, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Growing up in South LA, where dreams often felt like distant stars, I always knew there was a world beyond my circumstances. One pivotal decision I made was to connect with mentors who saw potential in me, even when I struggled to see it in myself. I sought out guidance from those who had navigated similar paths, and their wisdom became my North Star. This choice—embracing vulnerability and forging those connections—not only fueled my ambition but also provided me with invaluable insights, propelling me toward my goals. It reaffirmed my belief that while the world may seem daunting, a supportive community can illuminate the way forward, transforming dreams into reality.
As I progressed in my career, I made another significant choice that further shaped my path. I instituted a “bad idea” section in every meeting, recognizing that even the most outlandish suggestions can ignite profound creativity. While my colleagues initially regarded this with skepticism, this whimsical approach fostered an environment where brainstorming sessions became collaborative adventures. Ultimately, this decision not only sparked innovation but also cultivated a dynamic team spirit that propelled me forward in my journey. It is a testament to the notion that elegance and humor can coexist, illuminating the path to significant achievements.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is my relentless determination and diverse entrepreneurial spirit. At just 24, I’ve built a successful candle business that generated $200k in one year, driven by my passion and creativity. I’m most proud of my investments in real estate, particularly in Airbnb properties and housing for USC students, fulfilling a dream I had as a student myself. I also fund local businesses, like my grandpa’s shop, with roots in my childhood. Additionally, I day trade, utilizing my market insights to further diversify my income streams. Fortunately enough I make about 20k a month on average. Recently, I have been successfully monetizing my social media presence. This has allowed me to provide for myself financially. I receive numerous PR packages from brands. These packages not only enhance my content but also generate additional income. This combination of social media income and product partnerships has significantly improved my financial stability.
My journey hasn’t been easy. I faced challenges, but I pushed forward by staying resilient and learning from each setback. Working at my grandpa’s shop at 12 ignited my passion for business, and my wins in sports betting at 18 (turning $100 into $50k from NBA bets) taught me valuable financial lessons. My experience in a billion-dollar company as a creative, and then in turn as their creative director, equipped me with skills I now apply to my ventures. I was also lucky enough to work for the my favorite artists such as Mac Miller, award shows like the Grammys, Oscars, and sports games.
The lessons I’ve learned emphasize the importance of perseverance, community support, and believing in myself. I want the world to know that my story is about empowerment, creativity, and creating opportunities for others—especially driven young people who understand that with tenacity and vision, anything is possible.
