Meet Kathy Lajvardi | Artist

I set goals in life. Small ones, and large ones. I have the large ones in mind, while focusing on the smaller. Each goal accomplished to me is success, and I try to always remember that it’s not about the end goal, but the journey of getting there, the lessons, the good and the bad. Learning from failing and keeping in mind that when I finish climbing one mountain, it’s a start of another.

I like to create art that reflects todays time. In 2018 I created the KW series where I partnered with I like This Grape to co-host an event called SOMMX, where we paired my art to wine, music and food. The 5 pieces in the series were each from a song and inspired from a music video from that time. My new series “Unstoppable” is about the female-led revolution taking place now in Iran. “Break” combines symbolic elements that represent the heart, soul and energy of the Iranian people, from the Lion to the national flower, all draped in the battle cry of “women, life, freedom.” With this series, I’m telling a story of empowerment, of strength, of breaking through struggle from my point of view as an artist and as a woman. One lesson I have to give to other artist is that you have got to Hussle. No one is going to just walk up to you and give you a shot. If you want to be part of a show, create one!

I love Laguna Beach. I am in a few galleries there right now. I love going to Hotel Laguna, they have such a fun atmosphere and amazing art on the walls, and the decor is magnificent. One of our favorite places to eat is Broadway by Amar Santana. He is so creative with his food, and the art on the walls is so inspiring to look at.

I would like to shout out to my family and friends. The support from my friends, always encouraging me, cheering me on, purchasing my art, showing up at my events gives me so much energy. A special one goes to my husband, Naushad Huda. He is my biggest fan and supporter. His creativity, ideas, passion and energy pushes me everyday to strive for more. I think it’s really important as an artist, a mother to have that kind of support from your partner. If the support was not there, it would be a harder mountain to clime.
