We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Groven and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe one of the most important factor behind my business success is my persistence and consistency, It’s choosing to follow up with a big client even when you feel like you’re “bothering them.” It’s showing up for your clients when you only have two, it’s showing up on social media even when the insights tell you no one is watching. It’s trusting the process and believing that all the work you’re putting in now, is going to lead to something bigger in the future. Keep planting the seeds, it may be months or even years until the success comes, but if you’re consistent, it will be there.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets dancer-fitness apart is that our number one mission is to empower dancers to feel strong and to view their bodies as a tool, not something to tolerate. Throughout my dancing career I struggled with my body, I was never the best dancer on the team and because of that I developed an empathy and an ability to break down forms of dance and teach them in a way that makes sense for dancers and empowers them at the same time. I help dancers feel in control of their art and I do it in a fun and relatable way. I learned that there were other dance teachers or trainers who never had to struggle, and while very talented, assumed each dancer had the same experiences they did. This resulted in dancers feeling overwhelmed, belittled and misunderstood.
I had to lean into my struggles and I was fearful that struggling as a dancer would lead people away. I was wrong. Being upfront and honest about my story connected with hundreds of others who were ready for the hard work even when the talent wasn’t quite ready.
“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” These are my clients and my members and I found them by being authentically myself!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I’d take them to my Dad’s place in Beverly Hills! We’d sip drinks by the pool, relax and enjoy the view.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to thank my husband for stepping up as the most rockstar dad when I need to travel or devote time to my work. It’s impossible to always be an amazing parent, wife and entrepreneur but he’s always there cheering me on and making it so I can focus on building my dream business.
