We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie McGhie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Authenticity and being in the room.
It’s a tough thing to just be yourself in this business, and in life for that matter, but I think that’s what sets you apart from the crowd. When it comes to my music and work, it’s important to me to just be me and do what feels right to me. That’s when the magic happens.
And I fully believe that the best way to learn or grow at anything is to just dive into the deep end. Show up, be in the room even if you’re just a fly on the wall. Surround yourself with people who are a step ahead that push you to rise up to the occasion.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There really hasn’t been a day in my life that I didn’t know this is what I’d be doing with my life. I stepped on a professional stage for the first time at 8 years old and I haven’t looked back since. It all comes down to storytelling for me. I’m passionate about each medium of my career, between theatre, music and film, and I love being able to tell stories in a variety of ways. I’m always exploring and curious about everything. While my work may evolve and change, my love for creativity and story will always remain as the foundation.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In LA, you have everything at your fingertips. From the beach to the mountains, to the best concerts and food, there’s never a dull moment and a thousand choices at all times. I always tell people to get out and explore places outside of the city. Being right in the city is always fun, but there’s so much to do that’s close by, too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I couldn’t do what I do without my family and friends. I’m extremely blessed to have such supportive, encouraging and loving people around me. There have been so many people who have given me a chance a long the way, as well, and without them, I wouldn’t be where I am.
