We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Sobelman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
At the time, I was traveling across the country as a skincare educator, training spas in advanced treatments and product protocols. I felt inspired to start working directly with clients again so I could creatively apply the techniques I was sharing with my spa partners.
I realized that the kind of facial I wanted—a treatment that blended therapeutic massage with advanced electrical modalities—simply didn’t exist in the way I envisioned. So, I decided to create it.
I started in my living room, giving facials to friends. Somehow I got connected with an Eastside mom group, and my client list began to grow. My facials have evolved a lot over the years, and I’ve worked out of more than a few studios, but those core clients have stuck with me. I’m so deeply grateful for them.
As my business evolved, so did my facial menu. Over time, I dove deeper into frequency-based therapies, developing a service experience that feels more like a cellular recharge than a traditional facial.
One of the most fulfilling parts of this journey has been connecting with clients who share my curiosity and passion for true skin health—understanding that beauty starts at the cellular level. Their excitement and trust have made building this practice not just rewarding, but truly special.

What should our readers know about your business?
What I’m most proud of—and most excited about—is the way I’ve integrated cellular rejuvenation and frequency-based therapies into my treatments. While clients leave my treatment room visibly sculpted, de-puffed, and hydrated, what they comment on most isn’t just how they look—it’s how they feel.

I hear things like, “I feel like a new person” all the time. Some clients leave deeply rested. Others feel emotionally lighter, experience less anxiety, or even walk out with a noticeable reduction in pain. That kind of inner shift is what sets my work apart. Incorporating frequency-based devices like the Biocharger, Halo, or Electro-Myopulse allows me to speak to the body on a cellular level—gently coaxing it back to a place of balance.

Treating clients is a big part of my business, but I think education is the true core of what I do. Before opening my own studio, I was an educator, and I still have a YouTube channel where I share content for both clients and professionals. My passion for teaching—or really, sharing what I’ve learned—is an extension of my own curiosity. I love understanding how things work. I want to know the mechanisms behind the modalities and the ingredients. That pursuit of knowledge has played a huge role in getting me to where I am today.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to resist the pressure to follow trends and instead double down on what genuinely excites me. I’ve built my practice around the things that light me up—whether that’s microcurrent, sculptural massage, exosomes, sound therapy, or energy work. And in doing so, I’ve created a niche that naturally attracts the right clients. Trends fade. But real transformation and genuine enthusiasm? That’s what builds trust and lasting results.

I’m always learning, always evolving. Every modality I fall in love with eventually makes its way into my treatment room. This isn’t just about skincare—it’s about offering an experience that restores people on a cellular and energetic level. And it’s about building a business that feels just as nourishing to me as the work I offer others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, my list is long—and very wellness-forward! We’d start strong with a post-flight stop at Erewhon, because despite its flaws, it still holds the title of my favorite “restaurant” in LA. From there, I’d kick off the week with early morning contrast therapy at Pause, followed by brunch at Botanica and a walk around the Silver Lake Reservoir.

If the timing aligned with a new or full moon, I’d make sure we booked a spot in one of We Are Sacred Light’s monthly sound baths—truly transformative. The week would include a night out at Mother Wolf for their perfect Roman-style pasta (truly worth the hype) followed by a Griffith Park hike up to the Observatory the next morning to walk it all off. Then we’d ease into a mellow night in with takeout from Pine & Crane (the dan dan noodles and beef roll!) or Cluck To-Go’s Hainan chicken.

We’d probably spend a day out in Venice: shopping on Abbot Kinney, treatments or a sauna/cold plunge at Den Mother, a meal at Gjusta or Gjelina, and an evening breathwork class at Open to reset.

And of course, no trip to LA would be complete without Korean food. I’d plan a lunch at Western Doma Noodle (a forever favorite), Parks (the OG), or Origin (my latest obsession—mostly because of the endless corn cheese). We’d follow it up with a scrub and steam at Olympic Day Spa, and wrap the day with pumpkin porridge and all the bonchan at Boris Gogae.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve been lucky to have incredible mentors and friends shape my journey.
Pam Reeves (formerly of Dr. Hauschka) taught me the power of touch and intention in esthetics. Stacey Stilts at Green Line Beauty sparked my love for clean formulations and high-performance actives.
Kory Keith, my spa director at The Ritz-Carlton, introduced me to the world of microcurrent and advanced technologies—something that’s now a foundation of my work. Lisamarie DeLucia, from my time with Luzern, pushed me to raise the quality of my services and helped shape me as an educator.
Melanie Simon, creator of the ZIIP device, has been a huge inspiration to my own career. Her trailblazing work as an electric esthetician helped pave the way for so much of what I now practice and teach.
Jessie Heinz (currently at Sarah Ford Skincare) has been my esty-bestie and modality nerd—someone I can always bounce new ideas and tech obsessions off of.
And Amanda Robinson, one of my closest friends and a fellow business owner (of the amazing Iris + West), has been a lifeline—sharing wisdom, cheering me on, and helping me navigate the rollercoaster of running your own business.
I’m so grateful for all of them—and for the larger community of friends, colleagues, and clients who have supported this path.
