We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Watford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I saw a gap in the market. We live in the 21st century with knowledge right at our fingertips. We can get access to any information we want in seconds. But one area that is truly missing is real education that teaches women how to develop their own personal style. With more resources than ever before with online shopping, social media, influencers, blogs, fashion magazines, etc., but the modern woman is still overwhelmed, lost, and/or confused on where to begin. My thought process has always been to quiet down the noise or all the rules that is being thrown at women, and address the pain points they are facing day to day.

One of the most transformative experiences a woman can go through in her life is understanding what her personal style is so it represents who she is. But what’s missing for 9 out of 10 women is they lack a creative vision with their personal style. Knowing how to set the creative vision is one of the hardest parts in any kind of design process, but is the most important. My online course, Style Blueprint teaches women how to do this by discovering the fundamental basics within personal style so it truly is about self expression.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve been a professional fashion stylist for about 8 years, and had an incredible journey since the start. In 2014, I started styling studio executives in Hollywood and then shortly after that I was styling celebrities for red carpet events & press appearances such as the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Today Show, Conan O’Brien, and many more.

But my passion has always lied with women. In 2018, I launch my fashion consulting & virtual styling business to help bridge the gap between online shopping, and personal branding. To-date we’ve reached 24 major cities, 18 states, and 3 countries including the US, Canada, and Dubai. Of course I’ve had my challenges like any business does, but when you love what you do you will find a way to get through it. The greatest lessons that fashion consulting has taught me is how to communicate with women on their level. Not my level as a fashion stylist. I don’t deliver things above them or talk at them, but rather I talk to them so it feels like this is a world they can step into.

What I want the world to know about my brand is that your personal style isn’t about trends, what’s in or out, its about you. Ultimately your personal style is telling your story through your image. Then it becomes a powerful tool working for you and not against you as it becomes an extension of your business, brand, or best-self.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would roll out the red carpet treatment to give them a pampering weekend they would never forget. Starting with happy hour, we would go to The Rooftop at the Waldorf Astoria. Its one of my favorite places to go to experience a stunning view and delicious food. Next, I would take them shopping at one of my top vintage stores, Recess LA to find some hidden treasures for their wardrobe. Then, we would stop by my all time favorite boutique in the entire city, Roseark. I would make sure they get the royal treatment with one of the best facials your skin will ever receive by Gina Mari at Gina Mari Skincare. And lastly, I would make them appointment to get their hair done by my lovely hair colorist Ryan Sanger, at Sanger Extension Studio. They would defiantly head back home feeling (and looking) like a million bucks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I first had the idea I was going to become a fashion stylist I vividly remember receiving an enormous amount of support from almost everyone around me. It was unlike anything else I had experienced before. There was a different energy of encouragement, and support. It felt as if life was telling me to go do this. So thank you to everyone who encouraged me at that start of my career because I still remember it to this day.
