We had the good fortune of connecting with KATRINA CEBREIRO and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KATRINA, why did you pursue a creative career?
It’s hard to say that I chose a creative career, but more like it chose me. Ever since I was a little girl, I would make movies with my dad and make the kids in my neighborhood be my actors. When I grew up, and it was time to choose a major for college I actually picked business! I thought it was more logical and a good back up plan. But when I had to take the prereq classes, like economics and calculus, I was struggling. I have to work twice, if not triple times as hard to retain the formulas. Doing a test, I actually would come up with creative ways to get the answer by creating my own makeshift formula and that’s the only way I could pass! So then I did a brain test, and I learned I lead with my right brain. So why fight against what is not so natural for me? I’m right brain dominant, which means I’m more creative. So I changed my major to filmmaking and the rest is history!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So I’m so excited for my first big project. A lot of filmmakers work up to their first feature, but I decided to go a different route. I decided to do a TV series instead. I have so many stories that pop up in my head that I can’t possibly spend the time/money on just one. So I decided to put it into an indie anthology series. I shot two episodes already and writing the third one right now, while editing the second one!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I definitely will take them to a rooftop restaurant like Mama’s and after we have to hit up the bars in WeHo like the Abbey and TomTom’s. And maybe we can go for a swim the next day at the Hollywood Roosevelt. Also, I can’t let my friend leave without a trip to Santa Monica pier!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom and dad deserve all the credit in the world! They are so supportive in so many ways. I could not be more grateful the Universe blessed me with such great parents. I wouldn’t be able to chase my dreams if it wasn’t for them.
