We had the good fortune of connecting with Kay Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kay, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My business started out of mere passion and heart. I had no intention to do this full-time or make a business out of immigration consulting. Prior to starting my business, I was always helping friends, family and people I don’t even know with their immigration applications, finding and preparing for jobs, getting settled in Canada and jump-starting passion projects. All of this at no cost, just the desire to help others achieve their goals and progress in life. I remember our experience migrating to Canada and even when we first got here. There wasn’t a lot of information at our disposal, it was a whole new world and culture in Canada, and we didn’t know many people here. My husband would gather information from other students at school then we would do our own research and make decisions from there about what to do next, immigration wise. Fast forward a few years later, this passion initiative has morphed into purpose, inspiration and life impacting.
I am now a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, serving clients in over 30 countries, helping them realize their goals of living in Canada. The impact is far reaching too. When you ask some of these clients what coming to Canada means for them, it’s always living in a place where I feel safe, having access to basic needs, access to healthcare without having to decide whether to or not to eat today, and having a better future and opportunities for their children. I am happy to be a part of their stories and their journey.
With my business a lot more people can benefit from having knowledgeable, reliable trusted advice from a professional who has walked this same path and can guide them safely and successfully through the process. It also affords me the flexibility and freedom to take charge of my own destiny, lead a more balanced life and what I love most is having time to spend with my family especially my little toddler and being present for those special moments in his life.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant and I help people from over 30 different countries move to Canada to live, work and study and successfully settle with their families. Canadian immigration law is complex and there is more to these applications than people think. Its more than just merely filling in forms. It requires an understanding of the law and applying it to each situation. I am very methodical and thorough with my clients’ applications and though the class of application may be the same, each case is unique and different. Two things I promise my clients: I will be honest with them, and I will work hard for them. That promise remains true and that is why I don’t take on a client unless I absolutely believe I can help them and see a fit working together. When I take on a client I am motivated by their stories and the families behind that Canadian dream. This is what sets my firm apart from others and why we get a lot of referrals from past and present clients.
Canada is a land of opportunities, and I am excited to help my clients achieve their dreams of living in Canada. I share in the joy, triumph and accomplishments of my clients. Especially those with some tough cases and who have tried and failed many times only to come to us and we help them succeed.
Getting to this place in my business was certainly not easy. It was a road paved with difficulties, perseverance and hard work. I have learned to be consistent, persevere in the face challenges, pray about everything and include God in all I do and to never give up.
I want people to know that when they choose to work with me or refer clients to Northern Connections Canada Immigration, they are in good hands. I want them to know they will be working with a knowledgeable, competent professional that they can trust. I want them to know I personally have successfully navigated the Canadian immigration journey from Jamaica to Canada and I can help them do the same.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Regina is a small gem of a city. Life here is slow paced and relaxing yet there are some interesting places to see and things to do here. Its all based on interest but some of the more popular spots in Regina and nearby include:
A walk, jog or bike ride in Wascana Park
Royal Saskatchewan Museum
RCMP Heritage Centre
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I am a woman of faith, and I cannot do anything without first acknowledging God, who is the pillar and centre of my life. Without him, I wouldn’t be here and none of this would be possible. So, I thank the Lord for life, purpose, the gifts and talents he has deposited in me. There are several other people that have played a significant role in my success. I am grateful for the support of my husband, my mom. They have all contributed in different ways. From encouragement and motivation, being a sounding boards for all my ideas, childcare and just pitching in with daily household chores when my days get really busy. My business would not be a success without them. I am blessed beyond measure and forever grateful for them. My success is their success.
My son is a tremendous drive behind my success as well. He has impacted who I am. He serves as motivation to be better, not just as a mom, an entrepreneur but as a person. There are days when I get frustrated and feel like I can’t do this, then I remember him or he comes gives mommy a hug and I remember my work, my legacy will benefit him, so I press on. My son also serves as an escape from work and being busy. And spending time with him and watching him grow is always fun and relaxing.
Lastly, the support of my team has played a significant role in my success. No business can truly grow and scale with just one person and so I am grateful for the contribution of those I’ve had the pleasure to work with and who continue to support me. I also want to take the time to thank the clients who have trusted me and my team to deliver exceptional immigration and business coaching services. Special shout out also to my church family and friends who have prayed for me, encouraged me and even sent referrals.
