Meet Kayla Rhode | Accountant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Rhode and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started my business, my motivation was deeply personal. I was a single mom with a toddler who has special needs, working 15-hour days, five days a week, and I felt like I was missing her entire childhood. The guilt of everyone else raising her pushed me to make a change. As a mom to a child with special needs, I knew she needed me more than anything — and whether my business succeeded or failed, being present for her came first.
Like many entrepreneurs, I was also driven by the desire for freedom, flexibility, and the chance to build something of my own. I knew I had the skills, knowledge and desire to build something great and that would set my business aside from everyone else’s.
Starting this business wasn’t just about creating income; it was about creating a life where I could show up for my daughter and build a future on my own terms, while at the same time helping other businesses and entrepreneurs build theirs.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is different from many other bookkeeping firms because I keep it very personal. When you work with me, you don’t get passed around between different accountants or have to deal with layers of assistants. My clients get one dedicated professional — usually me — who knows their business inside and out. I offer the full benefits of having an in-house accountant, but I do it on a flexible, contracted basis that fits their needs. Beyond bookkeeping, I also step in as an office manager when needed — handling payroll, employee onboarding, contractors, POS integrations, even employee handbooks. I like to say I’m an all-in-one solution for business owners who want to focus on growth without getting bogged down by the back-office details.
What I’m most excited about right now is working with startups. There’s something incredibly rewarding about helping a brand-new company navigate California’s rules and regulations, then watching them grow into profitable, thriving businesses. Being part of that journey — from the first hire to their first big revenue milestones — makes me proud of the role I play in their success.
Getting here wasn’t easy. I started my business as a single mom with a toddler, so there were plenty of late nights and tough days. But I learned how to be resourceful, persistent, and adaptable. Those challenges shaped the way I serve my clients today — with empathy, patience, and the determination to find solutions no matter what.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about my brand, it’s that I’m not just here to balance books. I’m here to be a partner in your growth, someone who rolls up their sleeves and helps you build the business you’ve been dreaming about.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit for a week, I’d want to give them a taste of the best local spots — the kind of experiences that make you feel like you’re living here, not just passing through. One of our first stops would definitely be Plata in Agoura Hills — it’s my favorite Mexican restaurant, and I love sharing that warm, vibrant atmosphere with people I care about. For a slower-paced afternoon, we’d head over to Stonehaus in Westlake Village for wine. It’s such a beautiful setting to just relax, sip, and enjoy great conversation.
Since you can’t spend time here without tapping into the sports energy, we’d go to a Dodgers game. there’s nothing like the buzz of the stadium, the food, and the excitement of being part of that crowd. Between those anchor experiences, we’d mix in time outdoors, maybe drive down PCH to explore some of the nearby trails or just soaking up the California sunshine.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Before starting my own business, I worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for Tel Aviv Grill, a restaurant company in the Valley. At the time they had about 6 locations. I had the privilege of working closely with one of the owners, Doron Goldberg, who became both a mentor and a source of inspiration. He placed increasing trust in me as I handled more responsibilities, supported me when I made mistakes, and consistently encouraged my growth. His confidence in my abilities gave me the assurance and motivation I needed to take the leap into entrepreneurship.
