Hi Kayla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process to my business is to elevate professional threading by incorporating modern techniques into this ancient art form. With my background as a cosmetologist, I want to help clients and other artists understand all the benefits of how threading is elite over all other hair removal techniques for the face.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is “Kayla Weiss Beauty” and my specialty is eyebrow and facial threading but I also offer a variety of other services like keratin lash lifting and tinting, hair gloss, deep conditioning and blowouts.

What sets me apart is that I also have a huge passion for teaching and mentoring others in threading . I teach 1:1 in-person threading classes available at my salon in Hollywood.

The reason I’m so passionate about teaching is because I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to learn from traditional Indian women. The learning process however, for me was not an easy road. Working as a hairstylist in a salon in little India, (Artisia, CA) my boss suddenly said I needed learn to thread to keep my job.
She quickly showed me how to pull out a few hairs and then started throwing me clients. It was an extremely stressful and difficult 6 months navigating this new skill/making so many mistakes but also proving myself as the only non Indian women most of these client had ever experienced. Most clients were extremely hesitant to let me thread them & constantly questioned my skills. I was just a 19 year only jewish girl trying to fit in the best I could with minimal training but I was determined to master threading. 15 years later …
I want to give my students the a strong foundation of threading broken up into realistic achievements as your skills improve. I believe this will allow the artists to feel confident while giving our clients the best experience possible. I want my brand to be recognized as the go-to in premier threading services and education.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite locations in LA

In an east side girl, and will always default to silverlake, echo park, arts district and DTLA for my restaurant and bar hangs.

I would love to shoutout my husband Dale. He has been supporting me since the first day of cosmetology school at Paul Mitchell to the day I got my keys to my own business. 15 years of helping me build my confidence.
