Meet Keanu Alameda | Music Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Keanu Alameda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keanu, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued Producing Music when I was younger because all my life I was in Love with music and I would always loved to hear how it was created. My strongest memory is Jay-z ‘Dirt off your shoulder” being produced by JT, hearing the story how he started with drums then doing the melody and SFX with his vocals was just insane to me. So for me that was so fascinating, I begin to basically create my own music in hope of like Kayne, Jay-z, Lil Wayne and etc would hop on. of course when you just start something you aren’t going to be great of the bat!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What Set me apart from others is that my work is a reflection of me, if I use a sample for a beat I’m making, it isn’t just a sample I think is cool, it a sample that I’ve heard before or even grew up listen to. another part of my art is my brand. I always make sure I release great music and try to make sure this is what I love to hear. If I don’t like how the song turns out or don’t like a sound or instrument I will voice my thoughts and try to adjust it. what I am proud of is how I carry myself and my brand. making music or even any art, the art/ work is 10% the other 90% is all about business, for me I always work more on the business side then the music. it isn’t easy trying to be a producer like Hit-boy, Metro, Southside and etc but one thing they each have in common is when you hear their tag (which is their brand) you know the song is going to be a hit or bop. Also how they have their song writing credits, producing credit and engineering credit. they make sure they put the business aspect first before any release and yes it sounds like a no brainer but in the field of being a producer or engineer, the music industry / label love to take advantage of them if they lack the business aspect of the game. I’ve learned this because I’ve seen peers of mind that send a beat to the label or artist and not get anything for it, Meanwhile the song it a #1 hit and on billboard hot 100. I want the world to know my brand / when you hear my producer tag “Damn KJ you Made that” that you are listening to something I created from the heart and also my background and my story so others can be motivated or even connect to me personally.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a Friend in Town, I would take them to Mel Rose to get some fire food or even FairFax to see some pop up stores. but for me my #1 place is going to be “EXTRA” on Fairfax right next to Daves Hot Chicken. Me being born and raised in NY and now living in LA, I can’t find a great chopped cheese anywhere in LA but then I found it! “Extra” on Fairfax is the place! Also I’ll head to the Getty or other museums to see art and some other creators work. being in LA there is a ton of art, music and culture and you can never go wrong with just walking around and view the city and getting a little bit of everything
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person I want to shoutout is my mother. she has sacrifice everything for me and went through a lot just for me to be the man I am today. from Being Homeless with no one by our side to her getting her masters degree, I seen how far hard work can get you. she let me know from day one that in life you can either point your finger at everyone around you and make excuses or you can get up and do something about it. ever since then I always got up and did something about it, if it was me not knowing a tip or a trick about my music development process I didn’t just sit and blame others, I got up and figured things out. My other Shoutout would go to my Dad, He was a DJ back when he was younger to even right now. my whole life he would play music non-stop in the house. either when he is cleaning or even just cooking food, he would play 70’s , 80’s ,90’s classics and education me on the music. he was the first person to help me start making beats and using programs like FL STUDIO.
