We had the good fortune of connecting with Keenan Proctor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keenan, what makes you happy? Why?
Great question. Because I think at 29, I finally have an answer for it. Connection. Genuine connection. I’ve come to the conclusion that I just love.. people. I love how different we all are in our own unique way. I enjoy talking to different mindsets from my own, and hearing perspectives I haven’t thought of. And not to brag but I do feel like I could talk to anybody, at any time, about anything. I joke that I’d rather be a late night talk show host rather than an actor, but Trevor Noah is killing it so I guess I’ll wait it out. Which brings me to my second happiness source. Comedy. Though I’m too scared to get on stage, I daydream about it all the time. Pathetic right. The love for it is still there though. And for now, making the people around me laugh makes me happy enough.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Though the last thing a LA native wants to hear is “I’m an actor”, I have to say it. I’m an actor. My story is pretty typical too unfortunately. Small town Missouri kid coming to LA to make a name for himself. I started of blazing, well at least I felt like I was. Did a couple reality tv shows, some crowd work, even met Amber Rose. All within the first 4 months of moving to the dream state. So of course. I “thought” I was cooking. But of course, anybody who’s been out here chasing the glory knows, it just doesn’t come overnight. So overtime work started taking over my life instead of acting. I lost the way for a while. Then. I received a blessing for a movie audition, literally out of nowhere. I was tossed in the deep end. But I crushed it. I filmed 45 days out in Finland and to this day, it was the best time of my life. Even if I decide to not go the acting route, that experience alone was everything I needed to fill that little Missouri boys dreams of acting. Movie is called Insite and comes out 2022!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is actually really easy for me. All my friends from Missouri lose their midwest minds coming to see beautiful California. Everyday I would switch between squeezing in a hike at one of our popular sights that look over LA, or a trip to any of my favorite beaches. Malibu for wine coolers and looking good in your bathing suit. Will Rogers to watch or play volleyball, and/or throw the football around. (I have a canon). And of course Santa Monica, not during the day though. At night I’d take them out there to the beach side with a huge blanket and some food and drinks. While we talk we hear the waves, while watching the pier lights in the background. Its the vibe of all vibes. As this is enough already, in between of course we have to eat some Delicious LA food. My favorite breakfast spot is called Nats. A little hole in the wall in the valley, with wholesome people owning it. At night maybe go get some sushi by the beach. (All restaurants are great) Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is going to sound insane, but hear me out. I’d like to thank.. 2020. Yes, the year 2020. Though it was probably the roughest year of my life, and everyone else’s. The amount of “growth” I did as a person is incredible. That year gave us nothing but time to sit with ourselves, and figure it all out. I’m upgraded ya’ll. I put on 15 pounds of muscle and healthy fat, read me some self help books, and started cooking for myself. Even got into stocks finally. I feel like an adult for once. So yes, I have to thank you 2020. Just never happen again please.
