We had the good fortune of connecting with Keisha Manijean and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keisha, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to be that I made a difference. I brought love, hope, and change to the world as my slogan says, “I believe everybody’s got to eat everybody’s got a love.” And, I want people to remember me as an artist and remember my pictures and the message behind them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art would be described as surrealism. A closer look at the meaning to take something real and put it in a surreal situation. What set’s me apart from other artists is my art Is inspired by love. I’m most proud of my “Universal Love Series”. It genuinely depicts love through spoons and forks. My slogan is “Everyones gotta eat, Everyone’s gotta love. The series has been 25 years in the making, and last year I wrote a story to compliment the beautiful pictures in a table book called, “The Age of Universal Love”  My love for art started at a very young age. I then attended Savannah College of Art and Design and my love for the craft expanded and that is where “Universal Love” was created. After college, life wasn’t easy at all, I was what you would call a starving Artist. I did odds jobs to strive but never gave up on my dreams. After creating my website I was recognized and won DESTIG Best Artists and best Concept 2019 awards.

Due to the pandemic, those dreams were placed on hold. This led me to create a live show on Instagram and Facebook called Artapeutic.com. Artepuetic was therapeutic for me and the individuals watching and participating in the painting. I felt compelled to share it with others. In the same timeframe. I created a handmade jewelry line with natural crystals to bring balance and positive energy to the world. Doing so taught me to never give up on my dreams. From that, the Age of Universal Love was born. It’s a story created from loving one’s self to finding love, being in love, heartbreak, overcoming obstacles, and finally finding your happy ending. What I want to share with the world is love is our superpower and with it, we can heal the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I will start the trip by taking them to my very favorite spot in Malibu Goffrey’s, where we would enjoy the ocean views. We would then check out the Getty Museum and take a tour. Our next adventure would be to the Grove where we would probably catch a show. Next, I would make sure to stop into a local spot in Mid-city called my 2 cents for lunch. Last, we would go to the Lavender blue sports Bar in Inglewood then head downtown to the Broadway Bar for drinks and dancing. We would have a full day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes, there are a couple of people I would love to shout out. Renee Phillips has been a mentor and art coach in the world of art. I would also like to thank Ernie Singleton, he’s been my mentor and friend on my journey. And with the help of my manager Howard Palmer and my family. I am grateful and thankful and I send love and light to them all.
