We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Villegas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, every day, we talk about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I currently run two businesses that were inspired through sharing.

Self confidence was something I struggled with throughout my life and even to this day I sometimes still battle with it. Naturally, with a struggle like that we look for ways to overcome it and I decided to give myself a day to boost my self confidence. I booked a lash appointment without realizing this would be a pivot in my career choice. The appointment went well, the beautician made me feel confident during our scheduled time together and by the time it was over the beautician’s work and words provided me comfort and confidence. I quickly realized I wanted to gift this to others. I wanted the ability to make others feel good about themselves and spread nothing but love and appreciation so that’s when I decided to share my passion as a beautician to my clients.

As we live and create memories there are moments when I wish I can revisit them. As a child I have fond memories of sharing treats with my family & friends, as a teenager, I traveled to a new country and as an adult, I got the opportunity to experience a lovely honeymoon with my husband. All of these were captured by photos but to me, that was not enough to revisit them. That’s when I discovered how certain scents can bring back memories and invoke the happiness hidden away behind a memory. From floral scents to sweet scents each unlocks a little memory for me to revisit. With feelings of joy and nostalgia, I knew right away I wanted to share the same experience with others and thus Wynn Candle Co was something I created to help others experience their little hidden memories or to share my own experiences and stories.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Of course! My first business is a beautician. I work closely with my clients to schedule a private sessions to work on their lashes. My goal is to ensure I provide a safe space for someone to relax and forget their concerns while I do my best to make their lashes look the best! I love the idea of being able to affect someone’s confidence in a positive way.
As for my second business it’s candle making! I wanted to share a way to decompress and bring back memories of pleasant times. I create these candles in hopes of helping others relive moments that they hold dear to themselves. It could be a beach honeymoon that someone once experienced or a dessert they never forgot because they had shared a romantic date with someone they love. I hope to bring back these memories through fragrances that remind them of those precious moments. There seems to be a little trend here! Maybe I just enjoy making others happy too!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say Santa Monica has been my go to for a small or long getaway. There’s plenty to do and see! There are beautiful artists who roam the streets of Santa Monica sharing their love of the arts! The pier is a fun way to relive a bit of childhood with their Ferris wheel & cotton candy. Of course as an adult maybe we want to experience the nightlife which there are plenty of bars! Let’s not forget the fantastic food as well, with it being so close to the sea I would say it’s a fantastic way to get fresh seafood such as sushi! Lastly, the beach is populated by all types of personalities, I think a week might not be enough with all there is to do/see in Santa Monica.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my husband, the one who believed in me and always supported me in my endeavors, DJ! My children, my inspiration, and my drive to never give up. Even on days when I feel overwhelmed they always inspire me to push it, in fact sometimes they’ll pop in just to help out! My clients & customers, you know who you are!
