We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendall Hale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendall, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
For me, its never a matter of whether or not I should keep going. Its about how to keep going. Giving up is not an option for me, I’ve chosen a creative career because that’s what makes me happy. It fulfills my need to create and my desire to entertain others. So if things aren’t working out, I may need to readjust and adapt. I may need to learn a new skill or alter my process. I don’t think it will ever mean I should give up what I’ve poured my ambition and soul into.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I don’t think my art is all that unique actually. I think people mostly just like when I draw pretty girls or funny pictures, but that’ doesn’t bother me cuz that’s the kind of art I like too. I’m not the funniest guy and I don’t draw the prettiest girls, but if someone sees my stuff and gets something out of it, that’s almost complete job satisfaction for me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most of my friends from outside LA are land-locked, so I would definitely take em to the beach, probably multiple times. Joe’s Cafe in Granada Hills is one of my favorite places to eat, I could get the French Toast there any day.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe the most to my wife, not just for putting up with me and all the weird stuff I create, but for being my consistent inspiration and my biggest fan. She even buys my stuff so she can have her own copies of what I make. My parents and in-laws are pretty great too, coming to my shows and events and offering their support. And this is gonna sound weird, but my buddy Phil and my other buddy Phil have been a huge help, they got my career rolling and spreading into places I could never reach by myself.
