We had the good fortune of connecting with Keniesha Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keniesha, how do you think about risk?
Life is about risk taking. Most of us fail to realize that the greatest risk we take in life is actually not taking one. We have to do what we love, what excites us, what we’re passionate about, and what makes us happy. A lot of people chose the path that makes others happy, but in the end aren’t happy themselves because what they’re doing is not actually what they want to do. Most people don’t find a career in what they’re passionate about. These people are not pleasing themselves, they’re pleasing others. Most people play it safe because they’re scared, and that is the complete opposite of risk. Risk has played a great role in my career. If it weren’t for me taking risk, I wouldn’t have what I have today, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I chose to take a chance in life and with my career. I chose to go for what I really want. I chose to take a chance with what I am passionate about. When I first moved to Los Angeles during the Coronavirus Pandemic, I had no friends here, I didn’t know anyone and was a bit scared. I left all my family and friends on the East Coast, but I was venturing into the unknown and I knew that this was the right decision. Moving to LA was a great risk for me. I knew what I wanted to happen once I got here, but I never knew if it actually would happen, but I took that risk. Will I fail and have to go back to Philadelphia or will I Succeed? Even if I failed, failing would just be an opportunity that I got to learn. Today I can say that taking that risk has been the best decision I’ve ever made.I’ve been able to further my career and business in such a short time because I took a risk, and theres more where that came from! It’s amazing what can happen if we just take risk.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an actress, dancer, model, content creator, and entrepreneur. I am so proud of my journey. I’ve been in Tv commercials, music videos, print ads, plays, and recently started my YouTube channel ( youtube.com/c/KenieshaRobinson). I almost chose not to go for this career path because it’s so risky, but saying yes to the risk of it all is why I am where I am today. It’s not easy having a YouTube channel, filming, dancing, going on auditions, memorizing lines ,building a brand, and being so far away from family and friends. It’s hard work. I am where I am today because I took a risk and I believe in myself. I had a fear of being away from what I know and being out of my comfort zone. I never imagined that I would get over it, but I took a risk and it changed how I see life. Taking that first step and overcoming fear of the unknown, I realized that there’s more out there. There’s more for me to accomplish. There’s more for me to be. Fear holds us back and not taking risk is an unfortunate decision. I listen to motivational speeches every morning by Eric Thomas, Les Brown, Gary Vee, etc, and afterwards I work and focus on my goals and dreams. Throughout my journey I’ve learned that you have to take chances, just do it. Don’t worry about what people will think. Don’t worry about failing because you don’t know whether you’ll fail or not if you don’t even take the chance in the first place. Why are we always so worried about failing before we even give things a try. We need to stop making “failing” 100% guaranteed by not trying. There will be more of my work and brand to see in the future, and when you see it, know that it all started with letting go of fear and taking a chance.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show her the best time ever, the first place I would take her would definitely be the Santa Monica Pier and beach. We would enjoy the weather and the great vibes, maybe rent bikes to ride for a couple hours. After we would get food at Hot and Juicy because we love seafood. My best friend loves shopping so I would take her to a mall like Americana or The Grove, since the views are so beautiful. Some days we would stay in and just enjoy each others company and go on my balcony to enjoy the amazing views of the city. Perhaps we’ll order food from Cava because they’re food is so healthy and delicious. I’ll take her to EP and LP for a great social night. Another night we might go to a hookah lounge in Glendale. Last but not least, I would take her to an illusions museum and escape room for sure.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
ET the HipHop Preacher (Eric Thomas) has been someone that I’ve looked up to for years now. His motivational speeches have opened my eyes to how much work needs to be put in. Before I started listening to Eric Thomas, I used to think my journey would be easy and when I realized that it wasn’t I wanted to give up and just live an average, normal 9-5 lifestyle because that would be easier. The more I listened to him I began to realize that it’s all about how bad I want this and why I want this so bad. Am I willing to put in the work, because it’s definitely not going to be easy, but it’ll b worth it. I listened to speech after speech and all his TGIM’s ( Thank God It’s Monday). He made me realize that my journey is going to be hard, but it’s actually fun and it’s worth it. I’ve never looked back since.
