We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenix Xiaoqing Liang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenix Xiaoqing, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I started off majoring International trade and economics when I first went to college. During that year, I realized I wouldn’t be happy if I continued to stay in that program and eventually got a job in a bank or a foreign trade company. Since I was young I have always loved painting and drawing, or whatever hand-making things. So I decided to start over and studied art at UCLA.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an artist mainly focused on painting and ceramics. It was not easy, as I expected, to become a professional artist and have a career with it. The most important thing is to find a way to sustain my practice, and continue to make new art. If being a professional artist is the plan A, always prepare a plan B to support plan A. Luckily, as I continue believe in my art and work on it more, I got some opportunities to show my works.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely first take my friend to check out Getty center, my favorite museum in LA. If we continue the art tour, we could go to the Bendix building in downtown to check out some galleries, We could spend sometime at Los Feliz and check out Skylight bookstore and my favorite thrift shop Squareville. The American-Italian restaurant Blair’s is also a must-go!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and my partner.
