We had the good fortune of connecting with Keturah Hamilton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keturah, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
It’s always easy to want to give up whether it’s on your career, relationship, or life. Giving up is never an option for me. I was raised to believe nothing that’s worth having comes easy. I am an immigrant from Jamaica and Jamaica is run by a class system. You have to fight with every fiber of your being to stay on top. It’s been embedded in me to ”never give up.” I believe we all have a gift to know what is worth fighting for. For me, making that decision to never give up is my inner conviction and belief.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I was a little girl, I always knew that I wanted to be an artist. My late stepdad was my boost of confidence and he made me believe I could do anything I set my mind to. I started out modeling and found out the real world was totally different. I was ready for it because of my upbringing. The career path I chose in modeling and acting isn’t considered by many as a career. Lawd talk about challenges and feeling like you are on the path to no where. I had to find a method to stay in the game and that was consistency, determination, hard work and betting on myself. The greatest lesson for me is that there are no short cuts to success. I want anyone who’s reading this to know that no matter how talented you are, you still must work hard. The person who is burning the midnight oil and putting in the extra effort will have the success they deserve.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is my favorite part, LOL. I love a good time! First, a morning hike at Runyon Canyon. Then horse back riding! There is something thrilling about being on a horse and just totally allowing yourself to trust that the horse won’t get scared and throw you over. Next stop would be the spa. A spa day is everything! A relaxed mind and body is the key to allowing yourself to have fun. Drum Roll, eating! I love going to nice restaurants, such as Gracia Madre, Angelini Osteria, Moonshadows, and Castaway, just to name a few. I love a spread of delicious food. Eating together is a form of bonding and celebration.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
it takes a village to be successful. I have a list of villagers that deserves to be recognized because I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am today without the love, support and dedication from these people. First, I want to shout out my Heavenly Father, my mother, Beverly Morgan, my late stepdad, Clarence Ffrench, my friends Michelle Walker, Janice Pitter, Ewan Walker and Leslie Nesbitt. Saving the best for last my rock, my cheerleader, my guardian angel, my husband David Parker, and my mentor David Tawil, and my mentor and teacher Gloria Gifford.
