We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Watkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I worked in corporate America for little over a decade and I could feel the creative side of me dying. I don’t believe people were created to sit at a desk for 8 hours a day in a world this big. I created my own business as a creative outlet but not just for myself I encourage other creatives to be apart of my brand and utilize this creative space that I’m still cultivating.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At this point in my career what has set me apart is my professionalism and dedication to my craft. I’m constantly learning new things, and want to learn from everybody. It’s important to be open to learning néw ways of doing things. Technology is growing rapidly and has both negative and positive impacts on this industry it’s very important to keep up with these changes, that is currently the challenge for every photographer/videographer today. There have been too many lessons learned to list and challenges come daily. I do want people to know that this brand is for and by creatives. You’ll receive professional service, always greeted with a smile but the art that we co-create will be magical and unique to the SDL experience that you will only find with this brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The DMV is full of great locations. La Vie and Illi at the Wharf. Then Graces at the National Harbor followed by a trip to the MGM and a concert there as well. A sub from NuVegan on the way to the Capitol One Arena to watch the Wizards or Capitals play then walk across to HQ for a drink. The art museum, African American museum and the Natural History Museum. Drive to Baltimore to eat at Jimmy’s and then visit Harbor East. I have a long list of places and things to do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost thanks to God a big shout out to the man above. Then I have to shout out Anthony Jefferson for getting me started in the media industry. And my wife for always being supportive and willing to lend a ear.
