We had the good fortune of connecting with Kezia Luckett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kezia, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I first started working for myself, I ran a female based concierge company. With a team of 35, 2 managers and over a 150 clients to look after, when things weren´t working out in the way I hoped, I resorted to just working longer and harder. My boundaries of just working during the week, quickly stretched to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, until I reached a point of working a 80 – 90 hour work week, with no time for family or my own interests, I got lost.

It was when my coach turned to me during one session and stated that my business wasnt´t making me happy, that things started to turn. Initially I refused what she was saying and gave a thousand different reasons as to why my business, that I had invested five years of my life into, was everything I wanted and more, however I was just kidding myself.

It was over dinner when I recounted this story to my husband, that my seven year old son piped up that my coach was right, I was always so grumpy, that I realised my business wasn´t making me happy, it was consuming me and that´s when I decided to change things.

It would take a burnout of not only myself, but many of my clients for me to realise that most of us, do not listen to our bodies. We don´t give ourselves permission to stop when our bodies are screaming at us. We have been programmed that this is laziness, not proactive and it´s certainly not the multi-tasking way, society has taught us.

I am now fully aware of my energy, I know when my body needs to rest, when I am too much in my head and the brain fog is starting to set in. Being able to balance my work load, with what I need physically, mentally and spiritually is so much easier now. I am aware of the different energetic states I go through, each day, and can set time to move away from my computer and client work, giving myself permission to stop, without the guilt.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
After the burnout following the closure of my business, I embarked on my Masters of Science in Applied Positive Psychology. It was like coming home. Being a bit of a science nerd, it blended science with so many of the spiritual practices that I was using following the burnout.

It was when I did a paper on memories and how 50% of our memories can potentially be stories that change over time, that I became hooked in the theory of understanding, if the memory was susceptible for post event information and changing over a period of time, was there a possibility of changing negative, limiting memories to creating something far more empowering.

One Boxing Day the answers to that question came thick and fast on a walk in the rain at 5am. During the walk, lots of questions started brewing, The main one was “If you could go back in time and change the pivotal moments that brought you so much pain, would you?”

This would become my thesis, as I worked with women to shed a new light on their pivotal moments and help them to re-write their history. This in turn would become my modality, Mind Conditioning Therapy and the basis for a series of books called “The Pay it Forward Series: Notes to My Younger Self” where women wrote back to their younger selves at pivotal moments sharing the hope, wisdom and inspiration that came from the hindsight of time.

And in answer to the question that was posed to me on that Boxing day walk, almost 99% of people that I have worked with would not change their pivotal moments, even those incredibly painful ones,as it made them who they are today and course corrected them to what they love to do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the UK, in the county of Buckinghamshire, set in the countryside, which is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of Barcelona where we lived before. So we are surrounded by gorgeous, old pubs with beams and roaring fires, delicious home cooked foods that light up your soul. However one of my favourite places to go to is the Crazy Bear in Stadhampton.

It is set in the countryside but brings the boho, boutique vibe that reminds me very much of Ibiza. From the minute you walk in its quirky, from the reception area is in an old red double decker bus, you know you are in for a treat. Walking past the Koi carp pond with buddha statues, down to one of the main seating areas, with candles, sheepskin rugs and blankets and patio heaters to keep you warm.

With a choice between thai or typical english it really is a delight

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been so incredibly fortunate to have a phenomenal network of women and men behind me since I began my journey back in 2010. Each brings a piece of the puzzle to the table that have allowed me to fully embrace who I am and my mission on this planet, without judgement.

So I would love to recognise my dearest friends and business buddies Laura, Tasha and Yvette, who have supported me every step of my journey. My Pay it Forward daughters whose courageous passion for telling their stories, created a worldwide movement that has sent a ripple out to every corner of the globe.

And lastly to Glenn Marsden who came into my life about 9 months ago with his phenomenal Imperfectly Perfect Campaign, that has stolen a piece of my heart and is helping to create a new way of living for humanity by changing the face of mental health, which is a mission so incredibly dear to me.
