We had the good fortune of connecting with Khajuaan Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khajuaan, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Your word is the power that you have to create” -Miguel Ruiz

So often, we forget the immense responsibility and accountability we have to ourselves and others to speak words of life. This philosophy has profoundly shaped my own life, igniting within me a sense of purpose and a belief that I have something valuable to offer the world. At the tender age of 7, I participated in a spelling bee, and I vividly recall how my grandmother counteracted the destructive language surrounding my ability to win with words of affirmation. She would tell me, “You can accomplish anything you set your mind to” and “You already know that victory is yours, don’t you?” And guess what? I emerged victorious, claiming the first-place championship! It was the power of her words that infused me with a radiant light, enabling me to surpass the limits of what I believed I could achieve.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Proclamation Collection is an apparel line that celebrates language and its ability to shape our identities, perspectives, and mindsets. Simply put, we plant proclamations to remind people of their power. I would say that I am most proud of our follow through this year. We have been vending and truly connecting with the LA community. I like to say that our pieces are wearable art because in a similar fashion the language encourages open forum. I also get the opportunity to speak about artistic intention. The journey has undoubtedly been challenging. I believe that the most difficult aspect of entrepreneurship is cultivating the discipline to consistently show up, even when things aren’t going as planned. Remember, you only truly lose when you stop showing up. If I could offer any advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, I would stress the importance of maintaining a growth mindset, recognizing when to pivot, paying attention to details, surrounding oneself with brilliant individuals, and always having a well-thought-out strategy. What I want people to understand about The Proclamation Collection is that it represents the manifestation of the light that resides within my spirit, intended to inspire and uplift the world. It is a genuine labor of love, and I sincerely hope that this resonates with you when you experience our brand.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Love this question!

Keep in mind that I am from Jersey and have only been in LA for 1.5 years, haha.

Alright, so bet… they arrive Friday night. Saturday morning, we are hitting Little Africa in Leimert Park for the drum circle and to show love to the vendors and black businesses. Then we are off to the black women-owned dispensary, Gorilla RX, we light up , and then grab hotdogs from Earls on Crenshaw… if you know, then you know.

Sunday, I’m thinking a hike at sunrise, brunch at “The Waffel” or “Mommas Shelter,” and if they’re here on the right Sunday, we are hitting Black Market Flea or some other really cool Sunday market.

Monday, we hit The Broad Museum and then Grand Central Station because after all that walking, I’m sure we will be hungry. Later, we’d probably hit The Woods Smoke Lounge in West Hollywood.

Tuesday, we’re grilling on Dockweiler Beach. Wednesday, we’re renting bikes to ride up and down Venice and Santa Monica. Thursday and Friday they can figure it out their own plans 😂😂😂😂

I really love the market space out here.. I meet so many brilliant, creative, cool people in the market space. Some of my favorites include Black Market Flea, Black on The Block, DTLA Market, and Veganplayground!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dear grandmother, who is no longer with us, played a pivotal role in shaping the foundation of my character. All of my core characteristics were influenced by her. I am a man of principle and wisdom because of her guidance. Without her and God’s vision for my life, I would not be the man I am today.

My mother, whose story serves as a constant reminder that no matter how hard you fall, you can always rise and try again. She never gave up on herself, and I have always admired her resilience.

My uncle Mike played a significant role in shaping my critical thinking skills and nurturing my ability to think freely. Some of my fondest memories are the late-night conversations we had, where we discussed everything from religion and government to school and life. There were no limits to our conversations. He always sought to understand my perspective and challenge it, fostering growth and intellectual development..

I am grateful for my close friends and family, who consistently show up for me in various ways. Their support and presence mean the world to me.

Lastly, I want to express my deep gratitude to my beautiful wife, Sharell. Your tender love and unwavering honesty have had a profound impact on my life. Thank you for always making me feel capable, limitless, and for choosing to share this journey of life with me.
