We had the good fortune of connecting with Stefanie Girard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stefanie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Helping others. I launched the Art Candy Machine to give artists a way to safely display and sell their art and give art collectors a fun way to see and buy art when all the indoor galleries were closed. It is a huge hit as many artists need the focus of a specific Call for Art to create and the feedback of sales, on-line promotion and positive comments keep that creativity in motion. For patrons of the Art Candy Machine it is giving avid art collectors and first-timers alike a fun activity outside that allows them to safely support living artists and buy something unique and personal either for themselves or as a gift thus continuing the “feel-good” experience.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
To paraphrase, “…but the species that survives is the one that is able best to adapt and adjust to the changing environment in which it finds itself.” I have transitioned from Industrial Design, to Set Decorator to “How-to” TV show Producer to Craft Book author to Social Media Content Marketer to Artist to Curator. Simply by adapting and transitioning I used my creative skills to work in many fields and mediums. My art is constantly changing and adapting. I can’t stop trying new things. The constant thread though is a desire to have it say something meaningful in a creative way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My friends and I love to shop. My favorite places to shop are thrift stores as they have a historical aspect to them. They bring back fond and silly memories of the past. We can shop for hours! Not only that the treasures can then be used to make new art pieces.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mom! Just like sports figures when they win the big game thank Mom. It was because of her I went to collage at Pratt Institute for Industrial Design giving me a great education to then have a great career and then launch the Art Candy Machine to bring art safely to people during a pandemic and beyond.
