We had the good fortune of connecting with Khaki Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khaki, what makes you happy? Why?
Singing makes me happy. It’s so simple! However, through the trials and tribulations of life as one stumbles into adulthood, I managed to forget this for about a decade, for most of my twenties. I only recently woke up again to just how deeply singing gives me joy and brings me back home to my physical and spiritual bodies. Singing makes me happy for numerous reasons – neurobiological reasons and spiritual ones. Scientifically, singing is SO good for us – it activates and tones the vagus nerve, which slows our brainwaves and grounds us in the parasympathetic nervous system (our “rest and digest” state), lowering cortisol levels and releasing endorphins through the oxygenation of the blood. Spiritually? Because singing connects me to my purpose, to others, and reminds me of the power of my authentic self-expression. And it’s really freaking fun!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Harmonic Healer who specializes in natural voice activation, breathwork, and reiki energy healing. It’s been quite a journey to get here! In my previous life, I was a broadcast journalist turned entertainment industry executive. I thought I had everything I wanted – a stable job in an industry I would work hard to rise the ranks to success and recognition… But I was getting sick – mentally and physically. As I deepened my spiritual practice in LA (the perfect place to grow spiritually, haha), I was finally able to get quite enough to ask myself what makes my truly happy, what’s my soul purpose? The answer was singing, and being a guide to joy for others. Once I made that decision, everything changed! I left my job at an indie TV/Film studio and I put my all into honing my skills as a singer, with the intention of finding work as an events/wedding singer… but that still wasn’t my aligned path. It’s been a beautiful breadcrumb trail leading me to where I am now. My kundalini yoga practice showed me the magic of chanting and mantra, which gave me the creative freedom to compose unique melody meditations for vocal activation. The discovery of breathwork allowed me to access my subconscious in profound ways I never had before, and I knew I had to teach this transformational modality. A life-changing experience with Reiki healing gently nudged me to seek out attunement, and now all my healing offerings organically works in tandem with loving reiki energy work. My signature approach is an intuitive blend of vocalization, music, breathwork, reiki, sound healing, ancient traditions, spiritual modalities, neurobiology, and the latest in sound therapy research with an unwavering dedication to empowerment and helping your unleash your authentic self-expression. The voice of your soul deserves to be heard!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would spend almost all day soaking up the outdoor magic of this gorgeous city and eating DELICIOUS food! We would start the day on the westside in Venice with a stroll along the beach and the boardwalk, picking up breakfast at Gjusta and grabbing a coffee at Menotti’s. We’d then go up into Topanga for a gorgeous hike with ocean views – Los Leones is a tried and true favorite. Driving east, we’d stop in Koreatown for a decadent, classic Korean BBQ lunch! Then a gentle, easy afternoon hike in the San Gabriel Mountains. I love the Millard Falls scenic walk in Altadena – a perfect place to take our puppy and feel immersed in nature without a lot of huffing and puffing. We’ll end the evening with a stroll around the Silverlake Reservoir around sunset, and dinner at Osen Izakaya – one of my favorite spots in all of LA. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to my sound healing mentor, Susy Schieffelin of The Copper Vessel! Her unconditional love and support and her natural business savvy have been invaluable to my growth as a healer and entrepreneur. I have so much gratitude for how she has walked the path before me, and for her generosity of sharing her experiences. Also shoutout to Maranda Sanford and Libby Blasser of Illuminary Collective! These two badass women co-founded an incredible spiritual wellness platform, and it’s been so much fun to grow together and collaborate.
