We had the good fortune of connecting with Khari Jones Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Khari, how do you think about risk?
I believe taking risks is one of the keys to success. It’s simple, no risk, no reward. Every chapter in my journey they were moments where I took big risks and reaped the benefits.
Always trust your intuition. Three years ago I followed my heart, packed up my bags and abruptly moved to L.A. Most didn’t understand and gave their opinions. I tuned the naysayers out. Glad I learned early in life to stop listening to people who didn’t do what I wanted to accomplish.
At that time I already knew great things were ahead. When L.A. came to my mind, I meditated and knew I needed to move there quick as possible.
Many things could of went wrong, but I kept my mind on what can go right. Shortly after I transitioned my dreams came to reality.
My life skyrocketed by making a choice. Never in life have I ever let fear stop me from my accomplishments. I wonder how this next risk is going to set me up something big.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is my aura. My amazing spirit is something that no one can mimic.
I’m most proud of persevering through the early challenges of living in Los Angeles. Most folks move back home in a year or so. After 3 years I’m still here focused, locked in and the best is yet to come.
I’m also proud of recognizing the God in me. Thankful for my ancestors and guiding me and showing me who I really am.
I got where I’m at today by following my instincts. Wasn’t no blueprint. I knew what I wanted to do and relentlessly chased it. Overcame my challenges by using adversity as my fuel.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to keep people away from who are not on the same wavelength. Some folks only want to be around because you got great energy but don’t reciprocate it.
Another big lesson is you won’t get the support from people that you expect. My message to anybody on their journey, don’t get caught up in expecting loved ones to support. I let that go years ago. Appreciate the ones that do and keep it moving. Embrace the people you meet on your journey with open arms. They will be your biggest support based.
I want the world to know about me is that I’m never going to stop dream chasing. It’s a lifestyle that I’m going to implement in family. Starting with my daughter. She’s already the chosen one.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my people to Santa Monica Beach. Maybe Venice. Sit on the beach, meditate and plot on a master plan.
I’d also take them to USC village. Another great location with good food and nice scenery.
We’d have fun but I’d tell them to feel the energy going on in L.A.
I like spending time trying to connect the dots and I encourage my folks to do the same. Too much going on to do anything less than network and find opportunities. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s so many people who deserves credit and they all know who they are. Thankful for the people I’ve met on my journey.
I want to shout out my mentor Rob Parker. Came into my life and gave me so much game about life and the sports industry. I appreciate Rob for bringing me into Fox Sports.
I would like to shoutout Brandon Brooks, the managing editor for the L.A. Sentinel. I’ve so much as a journalist working with Brandon. I look forward to building many years to come.
Finally, Kayla Love. I appreciate this intelligent Queen for coming into in my life and helping me grow. Now she’s carrying my child who will be born this summer. Truly blessed to have connected with such a beautiful soul.
Zach Chike, my soul brother. Thankful for everything Chike. He know what’s good. Everybody need somebody like him in their corner.
