We had the good fortune of connecting with Khern$ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khern$, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

“All that matters is that you are making something you love, to the best of your ability, here and now.” ― Rick Rubin, The Creative Act: A Way of Being
To answer this question with a single response would be a disservice to my process and experience. The success of my art is based on a mixture of inspiration, effort, knowledge, authenticity, collaboration, and opportunity. Much like cooking, the combination of ingredients produce something greater than what any individual ingredient could provide. Still, the desire to make a sandwich alone does not guarantee a delicious result. Vision is just as important as drive, consequently, success is not only dependent on your desire, but also your experience gained through failed attempts. “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. – Aristotle.
I believe that even with all the same ingredients, no one else can produce what I do. The love, pain, and dedication that I contribute to my art is a major factor in shaping the final product. I put myself in everything that I create, whether I publish it or not.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

My art cannot be easily defined as any one thing. It is, in itself, a synergetic environment of who I am as a person. The formula to my art can be better explained as the beauty behind the madness, in a sense. I am the person you see today, you may not know me personally, but you can connect to the feeling behind my words. You can feel the pain of the scars I show. You can feel the tenacity behind my drive. When I describe myself in my art, I’m not just speaking for me, I do so on behalf of anyone who prioritizes themselves in an attempt to reach the best version of themselves. I speak for winners, I speak for dreamers, I speak for those who have yet to recognize their own power. Nobody in this world is perfect. It is, in fact, our imperfections that propel us to greater heights. “I do what I want, and I love what I do”. – Khern$

I wont pretend like any of this is easy, those closest to me have seen the sacrifices made and the time spent. The missed birthdays, the rescheduling of dates, the lack of sleep, the headaches, and the resources exhausted are just the tip of the iceberg. Any artist out there understands the struggles, some more than others, but you don’t need to be an artist to understand and connect with people.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t particularly enjoy outing all of my well kept secrets, some of you already know that. I will however highlight a few places I tend to frequent. I enjoy golf, I’m far from Tiger Woods, but I do enjoy the game. I have golfed many courses in my area but one of the best would have to be El Cariso Golf Course. The views are absolutely breathtaking. For drinks you may not always find me at a bar or speakeasy, but you can definitely find me performing at them. One location that I really enjoy is The Attic in Sherman Oaks.  When it comes to dining, I would have to mention “Los Balcones”. The food, the ambiance, the location, the drink selections, and the staff are absolutely superb.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In all honesty, I could spend the rest of this article listing the people who deserve recognition both personally and inspirationally. However, a few people stand out when it comes to direct influence and contributions. Danny Zico, my engineer, is definitely part of that list. The time spent working with him has rendered invaluable to the success of my art. The women in my life have played an immense role in the success of my expressions. For their privacy, I will not mention them, but they know who they are and they know how I feel about their contributions. I am forever grateful. Inspirationally I would have to include Rick Rubin, Jim Rohn, and Kanye West. The knowledge and guidance these great minds have provided for me have undoubtedly improved my philosophy not just in music, but in life, period. Lastly, I would also like to recognize the flow of energy in the universe. Without it, I would not be able to do what I love to do.
