We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiana Cole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiana, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success and the success. of my brand is that my work is very authentic and relatable. Many of the self-care and mindfulness topics I teach about are things I have experienced or have had close contact with throughout the years. With every life experience, I have been able to find the lesson in the chaos and the love in the turmoil. I believe that ultimately people want to know that they aren’t alone and the practical, everyday ways they can tap into wellness and self-care.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve always felt my story can be summed up in this thought, “I am working to be a great ancestor.” My ultimate goal is to leave the world better than it was before I was born. I truly want to educate and empower people to seek healing and joy for themselves. I created my brand Kickin It With Ki back when I was an elementary educator in the public schools of Washington, D.C. after graduating with a B.S. in Elementary Education from Howard University. I have always always always wanted to be an educator. I loved teaching and empowering those little ones so much, but after 3 years and losing a sibling in the midst of a busy school year, I realized that system of teaching didn’t fully accomplish what I believe to be my full purpose in life. At its inception, Kickin It With Ki was supposed to explore my journey as an educator, lupus fighter, and self-care enthusiast. Over time, it has morphed into a business centered around helping people CUT THE NOISE and get closer to purpose through mindfulness, self-care, and community care. I provide support, workshops, and resources that bring people closer to daily wellness. I truly believe that when you give people the resources they need to take the best care of themselves, the entire community benefits.

Through this brand, I created “CutTheNoise, Mindfulness” which is a culturally relevant, pedagogy-enhanced approach to mindfulness and self-care, specifically catered to teachers and students. I seek to bridge the gap between mindfulness and education. I specialize in helping school communities truly be well, make space for their emotions daily, and providing practical tips for self-care and community care.

So, essentially, my life’s work is “to light the pathway for others.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, wow! There are so many options in North Hollywood. I love the simple pleasures of my area. Let’s start with my favorite place to meditate and do yoga, the Whitnall Highway Park North. The view is beautiful and it’s within walking distance of a few cute shops. Now, on to the most important things, food and drinks. You have to check out “Lou’s French on the Block”, it’s a Black owned bakery & coffee shop and I love everything about it. I would suggest you grab the almond crossaint and chai latte. Then, you have to grab a breakfast burrito from a super cute brunch place called “Eat NOHO”.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to two groups of people. First, I want to dedicate it to my mama, who was the first person to believe in my ability to change the world for the better. She often sees the impossible and is ready to support me at every stage of my journey. The second group I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to is all of the students I have had the pleasure of working with over the years. They taught me more than I could have ever imagined. I am so thankful for their creativity, love, personalities, and innocence.
