We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Howse and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My story is a little different from the norm. Even though fitness has been a part of my life since childhood, it hasn’t always been easy for me to maintain.
I learned from an early age what discipline, hard work, and dedication looked like from my Mom. My Mom would run around Circle Park on 83rd St and 5th Ave in LA with my best friend’s Mama on a daily basis. There I sat and watched them run around in circles and bond through fitness, accountability, health, and dedication. I admired that!😍 My mom was always heavy in the gym and so of course when I became old enough to join, there I was following in her footsteps soaking up all there was to know about that life.
Of COURSE there’s a hook in the story🙄Because then came along lupus.
Lupus took so much from me, my career, my identity, part of my motherhood, and my health! Not only did it take all that away, but it left me hopeless and desperately fighting for my life. Losing my hair, my strength and my motivation took me through a deep dark hole of depression and left me with little hope for a future.
ᴮᵁᵀ ᴳᴿᴱᴬᵀᴱᴿ ᴵˢ ᴴᴱ ᵀᴴᴬᵀ ᴵˢ ᴵᴺ ᴹᴱ ᵀᴴᴬᴺ ᴴᴱ ᵀᴴᴬᵀ ᴵˢ ᴵᴺ ᵀᴴᴱ ᵂᴼᴿᴸᴰ!
I am still here, still breathing and I am still fighting, willing and ready to share my fight with you to help others reach their goals. My passion for this is so deep because I know EXACTLY what it’s like to start from the absolute bottom physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Learning how to gain strength back into my body again through pool therapy and range of motion exercises. Seeing others thrive in their health and wellness is my absolute passion and that is MY STORY, my thought process behind starting this business.
YES I’m cheering for everybody but I’m cheering especially hard for the ones that despite the trials, still keep pushing forward. We’re not comparing ourselves to the beach babe, the star athlete, or the fitness model, but to the person we were the day before and where we want to be.
Training isn’t about looking the best or being the best, it’s about TRYING to find the best version of YOURSELF and improving. And that’s what I’m here to help others do!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As President of Lupus Howse Foundation, I hosted lupus wellness support groups designed to promote healthy living. I created these groups during the early years of my diagnosis to support people living with lupus, and their families to cope with the challenges that come with living with someone with an autoimmune disease.
Before creating Lupus Howse Foundation, I worked for a Law Firm, reputable retail companies, and was making my way to becoming a successful businesswoman. I enjoyed being a productive part in the workforce until Lupus complications caused me to no longer be able to function in my day to day activities. Throughout years of being a single mother I worked hard to obtain my Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of La Verne. I never gave up on my love for learning and took my thirst for knowledge to the Cannabis Industry, where I created many resources for her lupus friends to learn and enjoy the healing benefits of mother earth. Then obtained my training and nutrition certification to further my learning of wellness.
I thoroughly enjoys fitness, cooking, being a leader and building leaders. I enjoy seeing others thrive in their health and sharing the resources to help them do so. She wants to continue her growth and knowledge in the lupus community as well as her understanding of the healing benefits of Mother Nature. I want to spread awareness, healing, and wellness wherever I go.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting I would definitely take them on a hike and to the beach, So Cal has the absolute best weather, so of course enjoying outdoors would be #1.
I love local and healthy spots, so to Haven City market in Rancho Cucamonga we’d go to visit my On + On Asian Kitchen and of course get an Acai Bowl from Acai Life Superfoods.
Downtown LA has some great museums and Art show cases and I love shopping in Culver City.
More importantly spending quality time and getting a homecooked meal in would be the main goal.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family, husband, daughter sister, mother and the lupus commUNITY
