Meet King P | Jamaican-rooted Hip Hop Artist, saxophonist & actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with King P and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi King P, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks are what separate people on their journey in life. Many or most people are scared to take risks and so they don’t. The small percentage of people that do take risk most of the time find great reward in their risk taking decisions. Like anyone else, for me it has been I win some or I lose some. One thing for certain if never know the outcome if I never try so I am a huge risk taker in quitting my career as a educator and coach to fully pursue my career as a music artist and actor! I also uprooted my family structure and moved from Florida to Los Angeles, California in pursuit of my dreams. Huge life changing risks! I say it’s worth it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am multi talented because of who I am and my experiences. My family is from Jamaica and I lived there after birth till 5 years old. Music is huge in Jamaica! Then growing up in Miami brings another element to my upbringing in music and creativity! Lastly, going to college at FAMU and doing as I did in high school at Miami Norland becoming a drum major after my freshman year in both bands to lead the band’s respectively was major accomplishments but also more development to who I am and my leadership qualities. My experiences were not easy because of lack of resources, my mother having to work day and night to provide, I don’t know my father, I started working at age 14 while still being a top student and musician. I remember my mom filed bankruptcy and I almost dropped out of college; I almost even began to sell drugs but somehow another significant person to mention in the last question, out of no where told me he know, don’t do it and gave me money and said no timeline on paying him back. Shoutout to Kalomo Bailey! I’ve had some intense struggles and can go in depth on them but I do my best in not focusing on struggles and more so accept my challenges and do my best in finding solutions, getting results or as my high school band director and mentors would say, just make it happen! Through everything I am known as Mr. Good Vibes and that is my brand, “Good Vibes” and who I am is a Jamaican-rooted hip hop artist, saxophonist and actor from Miami, Florida resigning in Los Angeles, California!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Depending on who the visitor is depends on all we do. Seeing the Hollywood sign is a must but hiking it or driving to it depends on who is here. After. Hiking most wants to eat and relax because the hike to the Hollywood sign is long! Other things we do is see the Hollywood stars walk of fame. We look at every star and make sure to find the stars we are most familiar with! I show them capital records as I anticipate being in the building one day soon! We see the Hollywood production studios like paramount, and all the other major studios. We may go to Disney Land and then some of the events or clubs/parties we’d go to are cultural like Poom Poom Tuesdays or reggae gold Sundays, and also at station 1640 where they do moonlight Mondays karaoke night because they might see their favorite star their as well as the amount of fun they’d have! I try to keep my routine so I’d have my guest workout as well. We’d have a full schedule!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think everyone along the way in my journey has been key to who I am and where I am today! A few specific shoutouts, start with my mom, Rosie who sacrificed to buy my first saxophone. I was already a dedicated musician and then to finally have my own instrument in the 11th grade was major! Her support was key, in fact I remember ministering a solo at church, while playing I’d keep my head down, but at some point I picked my head and eyes up and the first person I saw was my mom in the crowd and she made the gesture to show me to pick my head up and I did, I believe my confidence went to a 10 then and I always remember that moment! Other significant people are, my high school band director Anthony Simons, III, my mentors Miltom D. Wilson, Kevin Burch, and a mom away from mom Mrs. Phyllis Green. These people are key and constant impacts to my life and journey!
