We had the good fortune of connecting with Kinski Onggara and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kinski, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I have this habit when trying to learn new information/knowledge, I try to create my own way of thinking to further understand it. Either by creating a way to memorize it, or by creating a concept to help me understand it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was very excited for my last project. It was a song that explores the spatial awareness and space. In this piece my goal was to explore this concept as much as possible, by either using ideas like silence, layering, panning, automation, etc.
It was one of the most difficult concept that I have to encounter/explore. The concept itself was to counteract on what I’m creating, since music is the creation of sound not the absence of sound. This is why it was very challenging to fuse this concept.
However upon writing it, I felt it was somehow a lot easier after the first hour. I think once the foundations are in/the concept became clearer, the piece almost writes itself and tells us what it really needs.
As of right now I just want the world to know that I’m trying to explore new things as an artist. I feel that music has no limitations to what it can become. Music has always been pushed to the limit in almost every genre. My goal right now is to experiment, create, and try new things for music, just like the concept that I have used.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Rafting in Charles River in Summer, and Skiing on Winter.
I think the Oysters and the Pasta is a must try in Boston’s North End. (Neptune Oysters and Giacomo)
One of the best Udon I’ve ever tried at Yumega Arukara
Boston’s MFA for Art lovers.
Boston’s Fenway area is also a great spot to hang out, especially Trillium’s Beer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this interview for Marclesia Karim, for the support and love she gave. And to my Family and Friends, who has given me their utmost support during my tough times.
