Meet Kira Bravo | Digital Creator & Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kira Bravo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kira, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued this career because it felt like the only thing that made sense or felt right. I was really pressured to take a more “traditional” route of something in STEM which of course could have provided stability but I would be miserable not pursuing things that I truly love to do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Kira (ky-ruh) and I am a creative from San Gabriel Valley, California. I am most proud of my integrity to myself and being an artist in which I persevere through hateful people and comments. I am also proud of myself for choosing the path that is not easy but what is true to myself and who I am as a person. I went to school for music industry and fashion but the school is withholding my degree despite claiming to support those who go through sexual assault. Going through that situation so publicly really made me question my worth and taught me strength I didn’t know I had. I want people to know that it is important to speak up about issues even if it doesn’t necessarily pertain to you. I am still overcoming it with the help of my support system and knowing I will get my flowers eventually. I worked very hard for my degree and for me to be so close to getting it out but it being taken from me while my abuser got his degree and got to walk at graduation is a very hard pill to swallow.
I make my art and do what I do to share that you shouldn’t apologize for being yourself and speaking out against what is right. I used to really restrain myself from picking up new creative outlets because I was always told in school to focus on one thing, but I found that all artistic outlets are connected to each other. I also am a show promoter/event coordinator and have been throwing music events/fashion shows for almost a year all planned and curated myself with no team.
For my first fashion show that I through at Junior high I was able to show case my original designs to my own music that I produced myself while also showing other artists’ designs and a screening of a short film I styled.
I want the world to know that I’m never going to stop creating no matter how many times you comment something horrible and discouraging so you are wasting your breath.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would probably take them to Little Tokyo and eat there and shop for the first day. Little Tokyo is very special for me and I think that the Japanese American culture in this part of LA is so important to remember. We would probably go to the Fugetsu Mochi Sweets store and eat some Korean corndogs. Then we would probably go to the Sanrio store and thrift at Space City Vintage. I think the rest of the week we would try to go to as much coffee shops as possible and thrift stores to try to find some good finds. From downtown Santee Alley to Melrose and FairFax and eventually to Santa Monica and Long Beach to see the beach and get that California experience.
Above all we would definitely have to watch a movie at Braindead Fair Fax studios!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my parents for always going to my shows and my partner Zack for always being supportive in my creative vision.
