We had the good fortune of connecting with Kirsten Gavina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kirsten, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work balance was definitely an issue for me at the beginning of my career. All I wanted was to get ahead and become successful, so I worked pretty much 24/7 and never gave myself a break. I soon realized this was so unhealthy for me both emotionally and physically. I had no social life anymore, I was always stressed out, and I was truly exhausted. It is so important to allow yourself to rest and recover! I stand by this so strongly, give your body and brain a break!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Originally I started as a makeup artist, I went into school thinking I wanted to do multimedia, which was fun in the beginning but I wasn’t passionate about it. I then jumped into bridal and immediately fell in love. This was my passion and I knew I was meant to do this. Along the way I self-taught myself how to style hair and eventually went back to school for cosmetology to further my skills. It wasn’t easy in the beginning, there were definitely a lot of challenges. You have to go out and find your work and put yourself out there in order to get noticed.

I truly believe that if you want something, you have to go out there. It won’t just show up on your doorstep one day. If you put in your hardest efforts, results will show. I’ve learned that allowing yourself to accept constructive criticism helps build yourself as well. This for me was a gamechanger. Once I started allowing myself to learn from my mistakes, I grew so much!

I want the world to know that my brand, Kirsten Gavina Artistry, is all about what makes you feel beautiful. Whether that being a natural look or a full-on transformation. In my opinion, there are no rules when it comes to makeup. I’ve learned that one look will not fit all and each person is unique, which is its beauty. I always dreamed to open up my own studio one day, and as of 2021, I have finally turned that dream into a reality. It feels surreal and I’ve never been so proud of myself. This is truly just the beginning and I cannot wait to see where things go.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was born and raised in the Socal area so there are so many places I would love to go!

If my friends were in the area, I would definitely take them to Downtown Pasadena. It is very quaint and is super cute. Grabbing lunch and lattes at Urth Caffé is a must and to take a walk down the street to grab some ice cream at Wanderlust. I love walking down Colorado seeing all the shops and boutiques Sometimes, they even have street performers on weekends!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A huge shout out to my mom, she has guided me through all the hardships in my life and has taught me to be the strong and independent woman that I am today. My mom has been through a lot in her life, and I admire that no matter what happened, she always found a way to get back up and become stronger. She is my biggest inspiration and I hope to be like her one day, if I am lucky!
