We had the good fortune of connecting with Klayton Carroll and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Klayton, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business, Ready. Player. Win., because I saw a need in the market to provide young athletes with the mindset needed to overcome mental setbacks. Many young athletes need to recognize that mistakes are a part of the process, and that they need to find ways to conquer this fear to be disciplined players both on and off the field. I started Ready. Player. Win. to provide others with the tools needed to reach their goals, including the overlooked skills that can be implemented into the daily lives of athletes. Mental discipline is a key aspect of being successful as an athlete, and by providing effective methods and practical tools, the athlete’s mind and body will be in the right place to be able to perform at a high level to show up and win each and every time.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Growing up, sports were always one of my main focuses. I played many sports throughout my career, and after college, I became both a coach and referee. I became the founder and president of the first youth lacrosse league in Montana and was also one of the founding members of the Montana State University men’s lacrosse team. I obtained both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Psychology, and after graduating, I joined the US Army where I flew Apache helicopters. After the army, I became a Sheriff’s Deputy and at the same time, also became an entrepreneur and learned how to run the family restaurant.
With my experience running my family business, I decided to take my lifetime of training, coaching, and mental performance skills and start my own business. In starting Ready. Player. Win., my main goal was to make a difference in the lives of young athletes, coaches, and parents by bringing the mental performance skills needed to succeed to young athletes. After starting the business, I became an Amazon Best Selling Author by publishing The Student Athlete’s Playbook to Developing a Mental Advantage, a guide that takes a deep dive into everything you need to know mentally to focus on winning where and when it really matters.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Success doesn’t happen overnight. There are many people in my life that have been there to support me and mentor me along the way when starting my own business. One person in particular that I would love to recognize would be Lauren Johnson, former mental performance coach for the New York Yankees. Lauren has been an absolute powerhouse in the mental performance coaching realm and has been an inspiration to learn from. I hope I can pay it forward to all the young athletes and aspiring mental performance coaches out there and be a guidance for them just like she did for me.
