We had the good fortune of connecting with Kofi Nartey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kofi, what do you want your legacy to be?
Inspiration and Impact. I have a few maxims that I call “Kofi-Isms,” and one of them is, “We have a responsibility during our lifetime to realize all of our God-given gifts and share them with the world.” I spend each day trying to do this and help others do the same. Each day is motivated by pursuing my fullest potential and helping people unlock and unleash their potential. Even in my industry, we work to unleash the full potential of the properties we sell.

If I am able to impact people through inspirational excellence, my legacy will be cemented. Whether it is from stage, to one on one conversations, or through a real estate transaction, I want people to feel inspired after our encounters. My big dream is that people will meet my kids one day and say, “Your dad inspired me to (fill in the blank)!”

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the Executive Director for Real Luxury, the luxury real estate division of REAL, the fastest growing brokerage in the world. I am also the founder and CEO of my private real estate team, Globl RED (Globl Real Estate & Development), which services our clients in Southern California and Las Vegas.

I am in full stride at this point of my career, but the beauty lies in the journey to get here and in the road ahead. I grew up in Los Angeles and went on to get my undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley. I also played football at Berkeley (wide-receiver) and had a shot with the Raiders. When my NFL career was cut short by a knee injury, I moved back to LA to pursue acting.

The started with extra work and commercials. I signed up for a few different improv, scene study, and casting director classes. I believe you should put in the work to learn any craft or career you want to pursue. I was fortunate to have a ten year acting career, which included shows and movies like, Modern Family, True Blood, Psych, Fast & Furious, and Kick-Ass to name a few. While I truly enjoyed acting, I was traveling a lot for shoots and I knew I ultimately wanted to be home for my family. I started the transition to real estate in 2003.

My initial focus in real estate was on condos and townhomes because we owned a townhome at the time and it was a space I knew. I would ultimately make the decision to transition into luxury real estate, with an initial focus on sports and entertainment clients. Once again, I did a deep dive into this segment of the industry to position myself to be an expert in the field. It wasn’t easy, as it took almost a year (9 months to be exact) before I got my first luxury client. There was no looking back after that. I also went on to get my MBA at Pepperdine University in their PKE program.

I would later launch and run luxury divisions, and sports and entertainment divisions, for a few different national brokerages. Now I am in the most exciting two roles of my career: leading the Real Luxury Division at REAL for all of North America and servicing our clients in LA and Las Vegas through our private team, Globl RED.

My personal brand of “Inspirational Excellence” is infused in every role I play. I’ve learned that life is truly about perspectives. We don’t always get to choose our circumstances, but we do get to choose what we do with them. Once we take this level of responsibility, there isn’t anything a motivated person can’t accomplish!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA is a great city with so much to offer. If I had a friend visiting for a week, there are a few things we would have to do as part of their LA experience.

A visit to the beach is a must, as you have to put your toes in the sand and feel the power of the Pacific Ocean. In no particular order, we would have to hit the following restaurants: Tar & Roses in Santa Monica for amazing wood-fired bites, Avra in Beverly Hills for the grilled octopus and people watching, Perch in DTLA for the vibe and craft drinks, Gjelina on Abbot Kinney in Venice Beach, and Randy’s doughnuts for a maple bar!

At some point, we would do an overnight trip to Big Bear because we have a cabin there, and it is cool to know how close amazing hiking, skiing and snowboarding is. LA is one of the rare places you can be at the beach in the morning and in the snow in the afternoon.

The museums and attractions are also abundant. LACMA and the Getty are a must, and we would add one of the many traveling exhibits, like the Kehinde Wiley exhibition that wowed Los Angeles.

Finally, we would have to hit up at least one sporting event. LA is a sports mecca. An NBA game at Crypto.com at LA Live or an NFL game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood would complete an amazing week in LA!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my amazing wife, Mimi. She is my best friend, thought partner, motivator, awesome mother to our two children, and all around bad-ass! There is an African proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” We are pushing each other to go far in ways that unlock our full potential, impact our society, and build legacy for our family.
